Object Dock Plus Has Encountered a Problem

I'll be damned.

I've had the same problem since I got up on Friday morning and completely forgot that I had installed Windows Updates the night before. I'll bet that's it.

I have a ticket in to support already. If they respond with a solution before one is posted here I will come back and post it.

p.s. It really sucks not having OD once you've gotten accustomed to it.

And what updates did you guys install?
I've got Windows XP SP3 and I installed some 5-8 updates two days earlier.
OD runs like it always has :NOTSURE:

Remove the updates using add or remove..u can see the dates to identify them.
Run a registry scan after that.
Restart...
I remember a FireFox update which used to disconnect my conx everytime. At last I reinstalled FireFox...
Since then i discovered! updates are 'mini betas' which companies test on our computers. Oh thats my personal idea.

hi same problem here. after xp updated i can't use od. i try uninstall and reinstall . still not working. any i ideas.

Had about a dozen updates here that day. I still haven't gotten around to installing SP3. I'll have to do that one of these days.

You might wish to remove those updates
Then reinstall OD. Beware of mini betas microsoft has a long history..

Please don't tell people to remove MS updates, hemanherecomes ... it's not the wisest thing to do.

The cause may be elsewhere.

A better thing to do would be for someone to post the contents of the error log here in this thread and let support take a look at it first.

MS do NOT intentionally release dodgy updates or force beta updates upon customers ...they are quite thoroughly tested before release.

However, people's computer configurations are commonly quite different from the next person's. Sometimes things do get broken.

For the record, I have ALL current MS updates sent thru' the pipe on ALL 5 computers I own [Vista and XP], and don't have the crashing problem.

Personally, I'd hope someone posts the crash log, then wait for the response from the support guys.

Yeah, what Erk said. That seems a drastic measure and you could actually do more damage than losing OD for a bit. Post the log, let the people who know what they are doing help you.

I prefer final releases like SP1 SP2 SP3 etc... Because I forget what I updated and what not...

yeah definitely not going to mess with removing any updates until I hear back from SD support.

Just reading the OP did remind me that I had installed the updates the night before this began happening and haven't changed anything else on my system recently. So I figure that may make it a likely culprit.

But we'll find out soon enough I'm sure.

I have a crash log but I don't know the best way to post it. Should I copy and past it here?

I managed to uninstall OD with Impulse because Add/Remove did not work. I cleaned up my registry with a cleaner then re-installed ODplus. Without changing the updates, it is working ok. And I didn't even have to re-populate all my tabs :CONGRAT:

SP3 really boosted my system performance, and actually I installed it before installing OD when I was rebuilding my rig, so I don't know whether it worked in SP2
I think you should go ahead with SP3, though a pre-install system restore point is a good idea

I have a dump file that is 12 Megs but no way to copy and paste a .dmp file

Tried that here with a reboot in between uninstalling and reinstalling and still get the crash when I try to start it. ;p

i think i have fixed this problem...
the problem is with the docklets.
i believe its to do with the msn docklet.
remove this and it should work fine.

C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\Docklets\MSN

HOPE THIS HELPS...

If you have added additional docklets it is always best to add them one at a time (on a clean dock) to see if they conflict and/or crash. Also check the dates on some docklets to see just how old they might be. This does not mean they won't work but it should hint at what might or might not work (more so on Vista) with one or another.

Hi not too sure if my last post posted correctly..
I think I have fixed this problem.
I believe it is a problem with the dockets.
just remove the “msn docket”.. from the dockets directory ;
C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\Docklets
And this should fix the problem.

So I had figured I would just wait for support to see what they responded with but I hadn't yet got a response(not complaining I know you guys are busy) so I tried taking the msn docklet out also. And I'll be damned if that wasn't the problem. I actually removed the MSN folder from the docklets folder and then started OD and then shut it down and put the MSN folder back and tried again to restart it. I did this three times just to be sure it wasn't a fluke. And everytime it was out OD fired up fine and everytime it was back in it would crash immediately.



So now I'm just wondering what could have changed that would cause this all of a sudden. I've been using the MSN docklet for months without a problem. :NOTSURE:

Anyways hopefully someone will find the answer.

Actually I posted my last comment in this thread onto the support ticket and they sent me an email today saying they were glad I got it fixed and closed the ticket.

I know the docklet isn't a part of OD itself but I'm still curious though what all of a sudden caused the problem. :NOTSURE:

It was definitely a Windows Update. I downloaded/installed a batch of updates yesterday, then rebooted. Thanks, all, for the posts! Helped me resolve it in about 5 minutes.
