Saga Of Seven Suns

I was wondering if anyone else has read this series? The Saga of Seven Suns. Its by Kevin J. Anderson and is a brilliant science fiction read. Now the point of this post was that i would like some of the modders on here to possibly enlist themselves into a group that would be able to create a Mod for Sins of a Solar Empire of The Saga of Seven Suns.

I believe this can be easily implemented to this game. If anyone else would like to list the possibilities, even though i already know alot of them, then feel free to fill this post with ideas you may have for a Mod like this one. The most obvious changes would be the replacements which can be as follows:

>Tec replaced with mix of EDF, Roamers and Therons.

>The Advent replaced by Ildirans.

>And the Vasari possibly replaced by the elemental races (Hydrogues/Faeros/Wentals/Verdani).

Another possibility is because the Hydrogues were the main evils, we can replace the Vasari with the good elementals and replace the pirates with the Hydrogues.

All of this can be subject to change. Add your own ideas at will :)

And i know that there is another Post up here with the same title lol but i will keep this one up anyway.

I got this book from my mother in law. She originally bought it for her son and intended to give me the God Emperor of Dune book (as I was reading through Children of Dune at the time). When she realized I had the complete Dune series already (up to Hunters of Dune) she gave me the Saga of the Seven Suns book. From what I've read it's a good series, although I haven't progressed very far in the first book. I've read the backs of the other books in the series and I know which series I am going to collect next.

I agree that Sins could do with a SotSS mod, lord knows it would make Gas Giants more useful. ;)

How will the Klikiss and their robot army fit into this?

So you decided Sins of a Solar Empire needs yet another attempted total conversion mod. Here is why it doesn't.

This idea is:

[ ] Already in progress
[X] Someone else's IP
[X] Someone else's _niche_ IP
[X] So niche as to limit the available # of modders available to work on the project
[X] From an IP that has no visual media
[ ] From an IP that has only stylized media
[ ] Is somewhat original but cliche (i.e. a thinly disguised clone of Halo or another popular IP) and has no sign of any additional storyline work

As far as gameplay, it:

[ ] Asks for a series of gameplay changes that are completely unworkable
[X] Attempts to shoehorn some other universe's mechanics into Sins
[X] Asks for nothing but a string change and introduces no new gameplay

The original poster:

[X] Doesn't assert ability to do scripting
[X] Doesn't assert ability to do modeling
[X] Doesn't assert ability to do skinning
[X] Doesn't assert ability to do UI elements
[X] Doesn't assert ability to do anything else but give ideas
[ ] Can do any of the above, but shows off none of it
[ ] Can do modeling, but shows an unskinned low-poly render

In short, you need to rethink this because:

[X] Ideas are not a very valuable commodity: coming up with one is the easiest part of modification creation
[X] Asking for additional ideas from the masses rather than having a team discuss what is possible in the engine and what is not is a Very Bad idea and leads to false expectations
[X] Recruiting those with talent is unfair to them and unfair to the community if you have no expectation of what your mod will entail and how long it will take
[ ] Someone is already working on this, or something very similar to it, and you should probably just find their thread and comment there
[ ] You should write a design doc and get skilled at one of the above
[ ] You should do this yourself and see if interest in collaboration pops up
[ ] You should join an existing team
[X] Half the world has probably not heard of the IP you're basing this idea on
[ ] You need to seriously reconsider your definition of a "mod" as opposed to a "game"
[X] Model replacements bring nothing new to the table, unless they are REALLY good models
[X] Nobody in the community with a wealth of talent is cruising the Modding forums just looking for an idea.

carbon you need to leave people alone and let them try to get stuff off the ground either say something nice or leave. i personally have not read this series or have any intention to however this is the mod forum and people are suppost to discuss modding. you have no right to tell people that they shouldn't try something that they want.

The diffrence being; he was funny...

And pretty much right, I've seen soooo many bad mod projects and they usualy start off the same way.

if i wanted to be a dick i'd be one, OP. i just don't care to make endlessly specialized replies on yet another "i have an idea of a mod off an IP someone's never heard of!", so I decided to standardize it.

do you find checkboxes antagonizing?

The ideal option would be to simply not reply at all. If you don't have positive comments or at least constructive criticisms to make about the mod, just leave it alone.

We're all waiting for SINS 1.1 and the 1.1 fileset so we can start coding again.

I'm developing a utility, many others are enjoying the summer sun.

Magnifying flaws in everyone's work is not a constructive waiting activity...

it's somewhat difficult to make constructive criticism on a mod that doesn't exist. discussing how this is _not_ the way to start one is about the only thing you can do. this sort of thing is both a waste of the community's time and baiting the OP into unrealistic expectations.

hmmmm, jump over to that thread to go into details, I need to update it anyway...

(I may start it over using the 1.1 reference files, since I cluttered the mod with a hundred little things I was testing (abilities, ships, planets, etc)...

Since it has to be updated anyway, doing so will do both things at the same time...

Oh, for Dubaian: you could team up with the person who also suggested the Saga-Seven-Suns in a post a week ago (it shouldn't be too far back, and I remember it was a different name, so there is another who wants the same thing you do :) :D

Why FredLed? Why?

I've read the series, and to be honest if i hadn't i wouldn't have found Sins in the first place (plus finding Trinity  at the local game shop helped  )

Frankly i'd make the Vasari the Kilkiss, they line up. both races come out of nowhere and cause damage indescrimatly, plus the designs of the vasari go well with the Kilkiss, both are insectoid

Although I have read that series and enjoyed it, I believe the best Sci-Fi series I ever have read so far is by Peter F. Hamilton Nights Dawn Trilogy, in my personal Mod I have based my Confederation similarly to that, as the Tec are already very similar anyway.

1) The Nights Dawn Trilogy

2) The Common Wealth Series (1st one wih Morning Light Mountain)

3) Saga of Seven Suns.
