1.1 Beta graphics vs. "old" graphics

Comparison

Hi,

would someone be so kind and post high-resolution pictures of SINS with the new and the old graphics engine for comparison? I've heard much about the new graphics but would like to know how substantial the change is.

You're not going to spot anything significant :P Most of the changes have been models for strike craft being re-done. The TEC's capital shipyard was redone a bit.

I think ship textures are also shaded a little differently. The major difference is explosions, but those can't really be captured well in a screenshot.

All in all, though, other than the clearly different explosions, the changes are not what you'd call substantial :)

They seem just a bit sharper over all to me.

I think we've missed a few changes as the change log lists that there are more mesh changes than that.

I just posted what I saw :P

as far as i understand, what the major improvements were was the capability for lower end computers such as mine to be able to play using the higher graphic capabilities. they also did touch ups on the models and redrew some of the mesh's completely.

I know. I haven't spotted any more either.

Kinda impossible to post high resolution pictures- for me atm anyway. I was running off a 1600x1200 monitor and noticed that, oddly, in the current build of 1.09[b], the highest selectable resolution is 1280x1024. Thus, I didn't touch the resolutions originally, but I just got a Dell 2048WFP 24" 1920x1200 monitor. So I decided to select 1280x800 (which is in-line w/my aspect ratio) to see if maybe that would cause additional options to appear. However, no additional options have appeared... so I'm kinda stuck running a 1920x1200 monitor at 1280x800 atm...

Make sure your drivers are up to date from the manufacturer's website and whatnot.

Explosions can't be captured in a screenshot? I beg to differ, here's one I took that came out so well I had to make it my desktop background:

And all the ships are looking nicer due to the shading changes, I find. It's also running smoother.

That image is absolutely EPIC.

They need to put that in the Downloads section so people can download that image.

I believe the difference is the sharpness, they released the highres versions of the textures

Wow. That is an awesome shot there.

*jaw drops to the floor* Holy sweet mother of...! I want 1.1 now. Looks like I just got even more incentive to download the beta!

Here is what I don't completly understand about the change in graphics. I was talking to my friend about Sins and I was saying to him that my Framrate sometimes drops a whole lot when I play the game at the highest graphics and stuff. Now my computer doesn't just meet the recommended requirements, it beats the recommended requirements. The only thing I can think of is that the game calls for a 2.2 Dual Core and I have a 2.5 Dual Core so that might be my problem. At the moment I'm trying to play a match with the recommended resolution to see if I can play at the best graphics and only have minor FPS drops.

Anyway, the change log says that it is making it easier for lower end machines to run the game at the higher graphical levels, my first thought was "yes! If lower machines can run it better at higher graphics then my computer should be able to run it even better." But my friend says that I won't see much improvement. That just doesn't make much sense to me.

Depends a lot on what you're trying to do. If you're playing huge maps with lots of AIs and zooming into battles, it's almost certainly going to lag a bit.

1.09 should help graphics a bit, but I wouldn't expect it to go lag free all of the sudden. I does lag a bit less than before for me, and looks a bit better.

Well, I uploaded it to the SoaSE wiki a while back along with some other shots i've taken (which is the version I linked), but it only accepts crappy .jpg's :(

Taking epic screenshots of various games I play is a bit of a hobby for me :D

If you go to my posting

Someone posted a lot of pics of the 1.1 beta there. Hope it helps.

I'm not sure what they've done exactly in this beta patch, but I can now run the game almost lag-free on 1680x1050 with AA and everything else maxed out. On my laptop. Looks really sweet. :D

Ofc- I'm actually running off of the new drivers nVidia released last Tuesday along w/PhysX acceleration. However, this issue has been occuring under both those drivers and the previous drivers.

To the guy who was complaining about lag, do you have AA on? No matter what SoaSE's graphics are like, if you're looking at 1000+ onscreen entities that all need AA...

There are a few topics with that happening before, but I don't remember if they ever reached a conclusion...

And what video card are you running? I don't see any with divers released last Tuesday on their website.

hummm, how come my game doesn't look like that? I'm running it on 2 rigs:

1) 3.0ghz Quad Core, 8800gtx, everything max including AA, 1680x1050.

2) 2.4ghz dual, 8600gt, everything max, 2xAA, 1920x1200.

and my game looks nowhere as good as that shot.

Make sure bloom is enabled.

I'm running it on 3.2ghz dual core, 8800 gts g92, 4 gigs DDR2. Settings all maxed, 1280x960.

How did you find that? The normal searching for drivers pulls up only version 175 for me...

Downloading it, but it's gonna be a while before I can try it out to see if I get something odd.
