How to remove virus from the computer?

2 things.

1 - Wrong forum

2 - Without knowing any specifics (OS, which virus infected you, which anti-virus you're already running), giving any suggestions is absolutely pointless. The suggestion I'd give you is to search the website of your AV vendor (www.symantec.com, www.mcaffee.com, etc) and see if they have manual removal instructions for that virus. Most do. If they don't, do a Google search on the name but be cautious on the results. Other options is to either backup everything yourself (or pay someone to back it up for you) and just reformat the hard drive and start over.

3. Take care of your computer. If you can't use common sense enough to have an antivirus and firewall installed in the first place, it's unlikely that you'd take precautions no matter how many times you start over

4. Don't open any mail from anyone you don't know!
5. If your using a torrent app....don't download and run anything that ends in .exe.
6. If your business id dependent on your pc...do yourself a favor and buy some backup software.

Jamesfranklin, the above tips will be useful going forward to the future, but here is what you can do now:

1) Get an anti-virus program, install it and let it run. Here is a link for AVG Anti-virus Free Edition: WWW Link

2) Since your computer is already infected, the anti-virus program might not be able to fix it. If that is the case, go to WWW Linkand run the Trend Micro Housecall, an on line scanner. Post the results and we might be able to help you.

Always start from the beginning. How do you know that your computer has a virus?

Explain "not working in a stable way".

Last but not least, reformat.  God I hate that word. (:( 

Uninstall ur Antivirus and get Avast Home. Install it and schedule a boot time scan. If it does than ok otherwise format.
Try to get a backup. Sometimes beta or buggy softwares or faulty hardware may behave like a virus.

In addition to all the good suggstions above I would like to add my two cents worth.

In order to successfully remove any virus form an XP or ME computer you must first turn off system restore or it will be back on your first reboot.
An uptodate Antivirus and some type of firewall other than Windows XP firewall is minimum to avoid infection. good free ones out there for both.
I like NOD32 Antivirus by Eset as I have dialup and its updates are minimal every time I get on the Internet. I had "M" before and the updates were pushing 8MB. And comodo Firewall.
