[bug] desync'd game

1v1 small random

I didn't see this but the enemy said he had destroyed my home planet and got the win screen yet I didn't see his ships attacking and my home planet was fine.

Also, I played Advent and had Vassari structures being created on some of my worlds.  They appeared to work for me though, adding trade and spreading culture even though I had not researched the ability to spread culture.

The game ended in a minidump around 30 mins in (just about ready to fight, sigh)

djtech7,

In the thread about "Game Speed" people have been posting that MP-games in the beta (I'm assuming using the Alloy netcode) are starting with almost "burst-speed" and then slowing down later. I'm thinking this "burst-speed" and then settling-down (seemingly caused by the new netcode) could be at fault in your de-sync.

We have to keep in mind, when network traffic has to be allowed to pass/forwarded past the various routers en-route to and from the source and destination it is easier to maintain a proper connection, but more difficult for users to configure their networks. Hence the introduction of Alloy.

With tunneling netcode like Alloy, routers really have no say and the traffic simply tunnels past/over everything. Using UDP which is a connection-less protocol this may work well, however I'm thinking TCP which is strictly connection-oriented may not be as reliable when "tunneling" on various types of user connections. Thus certain de-sync issues may even be aggravated by using Alloy.

You could test these theories of mine by un-checking the "use Alloy" option in the "Host setup" screen and trying again. This means of course that you will have to make sure all port-forwarding is once again enabled so that you can host.

It would be interesting to see if the "burst-speed" start goes away (even if the de-sync doesn't).

thanks,

the Monk

the_Monk,

please shut the **** up.

You clearly have NO KNOWLEDGE of what the **** is making the desync problem. I've lurked around here and seen you give your sh!tty "advice" and all of them are ridiculous. Do you really believe your "fixes" work? Why would stardock pay a fleet of programmers to debug if you could fix all their issues?

First it was CPU speed that was the cause, now this?

You clearly have no idea what's causing the problem and your ignorance is disgusting. Please stop spouting sh!t. You're devaluing and discrediting the genuine fixes the stardock programmers produce.

darkcurrent,

1. To my knowledge there have been "several" different causes of desync identified through collaboration between the community and the devs.

2. I never said the new netcode (Alloy) was the cause of desync, I said with some of the beta-reports and my own testing it is conceivable that the new "tunneling" netcode may be making (one type of) game-desync worse.

If you read my post above carefully, I stated that the BURST-SPEED start in the beta that some users have reported could have been at fault in the OP's particular case! There have been several reports (i've verified this as well) that with Alloy enabled at game-start things seem to happen at "warp-speed" and then slowly slow down to normal, thus my "theorizing" about the new netcode possibly aggravating a desync situation.

If you're going to slam my posts, please make sure you read them first!  ;p

good day!

wow look what kinda piece of shit crawled out from under a rock. Why don't you go back to sucking your thumb. Let the adults who have at least some basic reading comprehension discuss things? Also there is no sense trying to get belligerent back at me because you don't have the Vocabulary or the education to succeed in a battle of words, foul or otherwise with me. Later you prepubescent piece of trash.

Sincerly,

i had the same problem as djtech7. and it wasnt on the new beta system either it was on the 1.05 version. basically my mate and i played lan and at some point it was like seeing 2 different games being run. so we decided to play around with it and see what happens. He destroyed me but i was fine and actually i destroyed him aswell but the game still continued. If we would build our buildings would pop up in there planets. (we owned same planets). We could send each other resources and chat but we were playing 2 different games while playing the same one. and whats wierder is if he ordered his forces to go somewhere the AI (im assuming here) would follow his commands. would send the forces to that point where he sent his forces.

sorry if this is unclear. i dont actually know how to describe the situation besides teh fact that we managed to make parralel universes in the game while being able to sort off jump in between them.

i would send the save game but i update my game to beta or i would take screenshots but like i said i updated.

FYI, someone e-mailed IC support about this and was told the next 1.1 beta build will include a sync log tracker thing to help track it down.

Until then, not much anyone can do.

I think it's best to send the save/replay/other info to SD support.

Gees - The Monk really knows how to aggrevate people doesn't he.

This is at least the SECOND brainiac who has had a go on the forums that I have seen (there may be more).

All I can say is - keep up the good work Monk :D

BTW - check out the Karma difference. Is there ANYONE with higher Karma then The Monk???

Saw one in the older thread, but I don't know if they were ever kicked out. Some people just don't like to see others helping out.

Depends on the site. On sins right now, I see the_Monk at 76 and Annatar at 77.

I haven't given the Monk any karma yet, so I'll even it out.  There, it's a tie now.  B)

EDIT:  Maybe once the Monk reaches 100 karma, he'll be able to play the game again.
