New Star Trek 4X?

So, I was doing my daily rounds on Gamespot, and I noticed screenshots for a supposed new Star Trek 4x that's also supposedly based on Birth of the Federation.

Now, the screenshots definitely prove it's going to be a straight 4x.. but there's no info on the game at all. All that's released are the screenshot.

Quite odd.. but hey.

I loved BotF. Good news. Although if its a really good game it might tip the balance for Stardock about what to do with GC2, as in roll out more expansions or start work on GC3.

Actually looking at those screen shots that IS BotF, indeed in one they call it BotF2. Well judging from those screen shots its BotF 1.5 not even 2. Maybe its early days, but it does not look to me like they have come very far from 1999. Yet..

What I don't quite understand is that Mike has been working on the game for a long time as a personal project, so why is Gamespot showing screenshots of it?

Not that I'm complaining, mind you -- I think the guy deserves all the exposure he can get -- but I'm (pleasantly) surprised Gamespot would feature what is, essentially, nothing more than a fan-made game.


Still, I congratulate him, and I continue to looking forward to playing the final product. :CONGRAT:

Well, it is in Alpha. I downloaded it last night to try it out - couldn't figure out how to build a ship. Well, technically I got the shipyard built and a ship queued, but it never had enough resources to build it even though I tried building all the resource buildings (speaking of which - most of them didn't even register. Those 1-turn to build ones, especially ones that produce dilithium, energy, etc never registered as built). Gonna give it another whirl tonight.. the guy also has some youtube vids on the combat engine, but that's not in the client DL.

Yeah, it won't run without it ;) The game shows good promise though.. it's very professional looking so far.
