Charter cable... As bad as people say? Read on.

So I recently got Charter cable internet (10 megs) put it.  The cables are still laying from the pole to our house, not buried.

We just had a bad storm.  As soon as it started, bellsouth dsl went down.  Then directv satelitte went out of placement as 1.5 inches of rain came down.

It also affected the digital analog converter box in our kitchen.

But what did it not effect?  Charter cable.

Just ran a speed test, usual speed for 3 to 7 (10 megs).

I can't speak for people who have problems with charter cable, but having them put in a brand new cable line instead of using an old one has done wonders for us.

And if you ask why we kept everything on, we have 5 opti-ups uninterputable power supplies.

Why would the storm affect the cable? The only way it would be affected is if it was struck by something, or disrupted/fried by lighting.

Personally I don't care if things go out during a storm, technically your supposed to not be using that stuff when a storm is occuring anyway.

Real men have a UPS!

Seriously though, I have about 40 minutes of heavy use with the power out, internet access and all. It's satellite and gets knocked out by heavy rain fade, but I work/play through thunderstorms all the time.

Of my 5 ups's, 2 are connectioned to tvs, 2 to pcs, and 1 to a htpc.

They aren't to use and play during a storm. Their to watch in case tornados come, or anythign really bad.

Ah, now that makes more sense

Tornadoes? I thought Charter only operated here in New England...

Although their business model allows them to settle anywhere, really.

Didn't know Charter was in England. They're fairly big here in the States.

Had them, got about a third of the bandwidth we payed for despite several repairmen coming out, happier with Qwest.

I never had any problems with Charter back when I was living in rural Minnesota. I would argue that at the very least, they're better than Comcast or Qwest.

There was a paper in the South about how Charter was the WORST (in a public opinion survey) in customer satisfaction...of any company...ever. That should tell you something. As DarkKnight pointed out, there are some advantages to cable in inclement, but that's more true for cable in general that Charter specifically.
