Another newb question - Fleet Size Supply Units

I'm playing with the demo. I want to build a capital ship but it says I can't because it takes 50 fleet supply units and I only have 25 left. Do I have to scuttle some of my other smaller ships or is there someway I can increase my fleet supply units above 100?

The fleet logistics research is part of the research screen. You can increase both capital ship crews and the overall fleet supply there
