Multiplayer Game

Hello,

I am trying to play a multiplayer game, but it keeps telling me I am blocked by a firewall and gives me port numbers

How do I fix that so I am able to play?

Thanks

To open the ports for multiplayer, you need to go to Control Panel->Windows Firewall. Then,

IF YOU HAVE VISTA:
There will then be a link to "allow a program through the firewall". If you click the link, then you can either add a program, or add a port.

IF YOU HAVE XP:
Go to the "exceptions" tab.

In either case, you'll want to add ports, so click the "Add Port" button. Add UDP port 6000 and then UDP port 6112. When you add a port it'll ask you to name it, but it doesn't matter what you name them. I went with PM2008 Multiplayer 1 and PM2008 Multiplayer 2 for my port names.

Hopefully that helps.

i did the same thing but nothing happened. everytime i tried joining  a multiplayer game the same thing appears.

i regret buying this game. all other online game doesnt require such ports...

ive wasted more than 3 hours trying to fix this port issue...

every single new player reports the same thing.

what's the point of buying the original version when u cant go online...

why does every other online game doesnt require port fixes except this game

the explanation given is not accurate. i read all the different suggestions given to fix the port problem nothing worked.

ive created new ports (added new ports) as requested, reinstalled the game and still nothing happened...

the next patch should abolish this stupid port use. we all should be able to play without using the port requirements... hope the creator of this game gets this message.

Honestly it amazes me to find people still not understanding a firewall... It's a sad day when jo smo was allowed on the internet slowing down the web.

Seriously every program uses ports on a firewall! Web browsing is port 80 etc... As to firewalls you may have Norton Internet security etc.. We don't know what Firewall your running. So w/o any info someone guessed you were using the very weak Windows one. Who knows maybe you've got black Ice.... Whatever your firewall program is you need to allow these ports for play it's not that difficult. As to a Router being the issue just ask your land lord to turn on UPNP (Universial Plug and Play) That'll let your computer auto grab ports.

Honestly I don't know why I try to help ignorant pleblians. Everything you want to know about computers is already out there on the web. How hard is it to google/yahoo etc. seriously I bet every question about gaming and Firewalls has been asked 10+ times and answered 40+ times. The problem is that there are many diffrent Firewall programs while games may auto install data for the windows firewall (This is a security hazard!) A real firewall program won't allow that(because of the security hazard). Most firewalls have a training mode where you can tell it what you want to connect to the net and what you want to block use it. Find out what your security program is and learn about it!

Last but not least quit Whining like a 5 yr old! It's so lame to see people acting like they even understand 1/10th of what they're saying. Make a patch to break my system security ... that's like asking for a freaking worm just so you don't have to spend a little time learning what you should already know!

It's been said before, but I'll point it out again.  Contact [email protected] if you have technical problems and want a Stardock rep to respond with help.  The forums are not live support.
