Really messed up install and uninstall - please help

problem located between keyboard and chair...

ok..here's the thing

my fiancee really likes the themes and different "looks" windows can have, I told him about Windowblinds..he found a spiderman WBA that he really liked so he downloaded  (he is running Windows XP SP3)..got an error message during install that a .bmp file couldn't be accessed, make sure disk is not write protected..etc....so..

then...I checked permissions and shut down any AV or Spy that might be interefering,  tried the install again...same error...

here is where I apparently lost any common sense ...I read a couple of things online and thought maybe we should start with version 5.0...that installed OK, but for some reason default skin was black and we couln't read options in configuration windows..I did finally see where to load WBA...loaded the Spiderman WBA, and the only thing that happened was that ALL of the files associated with the WBA now populate the desktop, I uninstalled WindowBlind 5.0, abd deleted the spiderman files from desktop...now everytime he reboots, they come back......all of them...probable 20 or so files plastered on his desktop....delete them, reboot, they come back...

any help out there?..please......

We downloaded it from....

http://www.download32.com/windowblinds-5-0-2006-i19816.html

I have read the pinned post above re; the cracked version of 5 and I thought download32 would be a safe place to download...do you think maybe I got a bad version?

thanks for your help

Upload the image to http://imageshack.us, copy the Direct link to image from the bottom of the page, click on the "insert image" button (looks like mountains and a sun), paste in the direct link to image, then post it.

Umm...can't really help with the delete-reboot thing, :p  but I'd recommend avoididng these kinds of sites...and you sure got a bad version...seeing WindowBlinds 6 is the latest [6.1 actually]...try downloading it from Download.com or click the download buttonat Stardock's WB page.
Secondly, the newest version is always the best option, because, well, it's more secure and compatible with more systems. I suggest you do what you always do after reboot [delete those Spiderman files] and before a reboot try running a good antivirus and antispyware app just to make sure that it's not WB that's causing the problem. If that doesn't show up anything, let's see what others come up with...

And you cant copy/paste into the text box..upload it at Flickr or ImageShack and get the link to the image and press the Add Image button here and paste the link ;)

I first tried to install WB version 6.

Where did you obtain v6? And did you uninstall it before installing v.5? You may need to run a cleanup program like ccleaner,re boot and re install the trial version or the paid version of WindowBlinds.WWW Link

You will need to upload your image to a hosting site like ImageShackWWW Link, get a link, then upload to here with the insert link button in the reply box.

LOL Hankers.

And yeah, I'm not sure where you heard it's best to start with 5.0, since that version is so old. Should start with the latest version from the Stardock site. It's also important to reset to the default XP theme before uninstalling Windowblinds.

OK..

First, thanks so much for everyones help!!!!!!!!!

I am such an idiot, I know better than to try old versions of anything..and I also know to download from companies site if possible. And the person who had the bright idea to install 5.0 and then go up to 6.0 was me...I don't know what I was thinking...anyway..

I logged into his computer as myself and didn't get the spiderman files..I figured that those spiderman files must somehow be associated with his log on and hence his "theme"...I changed his theme, rebooted and no more spiderman files...(YIPPEE)

but then I was still stuck with the initial problem of bad install of version 60

[/img]

well, then I thought, it must be a permissions problem, even though him and I are both admins on his machine...I did a command prompt cacls and set admin privileges to everyone and everything under documents and settings folders....

then tried an absolutely fresh install of 6.0....and it worked!!!!!!!!!!

he is now, as I type this setting up his SPIDERMAN theme......

thanks again for all of your help..

Respectfully

Sheila

What?? Even though I'm using Vista, I was having hassles with V6.1 (trial version) yesterday so I tried uninstalling both ObjectBar and WindowBlinds (don't know if I even had SDC?). I didn't even think to change the skin back to default before I uninstalled WB...

Am I stuck with it forever? Tried booting in Safe Mode but there were no processes running in Task Manager and it looks like most of the folders (incl. the uninstall) have already been wiped.

Suggestions anyone? Much appreciated.

1: System restore to a point before you installed WB's.
Or
2:Reinstall WB's ,apply default Aero theme,and uninstall.
Have you tried changing back to Aero or Vista Standard in appearances and personalization, and then rebooting?
