I am really enjoying this game and just played through my first campaign as Obama.  My opponent (naturally) was McCain and I was curious if the strategy of putting certain states into play that should be in play this year, would work (i.e. CO, IN, VA, NC, NM etc) to avoid a 'down to one state deciding the election' scenario...which is unlikely to happen again this year.

Overall the polling numbers seemed to be pretty realistic...with the exception of W. VA, who favored Obama over McCain by a margin 55% - 45%...anyone who saw the exit polls out of W. Va and the primary results know THAT is unlikely.  I tried to put Texas into play (hey, they had elected Ann Richards in the past...it's possible!) and I made a lot of headway early on (even taking the lead for a number of weeks), by despite ads, upgrading my buildings and placing operatives there, I still remained roughly 10 points behind...so I pulled resources out of the state near the end.

Anyway, below are the screen captures of my results....373 to 165, plus over 10 million lead in popular vote and spent less money...sweeeeet....

Post screenshots if you have 'em!

Nice win! :) I really want to get a custom candidate thread going as well...we've made some pretty crazy ones over the course of production. I'd like to see what other players can come up with.

Here is my user created candidate, didn't really go crazy with it...as I am sure is the tendency at first, you create a character that resembles yourself! Self indulgent, I know, but makes you more into the game if it's "you" campaigning :)

Just started campaign mode, my user created character vs. U. Grant. End result was a 379 - 159 victory, including a handful of 'fly over' states. I am sure it gets harder, but still doesn't take away from the sweet taste of electoral victory....I love the smell of electoral victory in the morning...

New map, Nixon versus my created character. 473 - 65 Electoral Votes...Niiiiiice. Spent about 7 million less than Dick, and won popular vote by 22 million. Too much fun...and now, no Watergate. ;)
