Cannot install game. Initializer threw an exception

I bought the game. Installed impulse.

After launching Impulse, it accepts my registration info and then says - "There was a problem beginning the download. Please try again.
They type initializer for 'em' threw an exception". Rebooted ( Win XP SP2 ), reinstalled impulse to no avail.

I'm getting nowhere resolving this and its frustrating. Why can't they simply give me the damn game installation files without this download management layer.

Do you know what the problem is and what is the fix ? This is annoying. I hope the game is better than the download management software.

Ok. This is resolved now after pouring through the forums and wasting so much time.
Essentially, the BITS service needs to be running. ( Background Intelligent Transfer Service )

I got to this by searching on hanging download issue in the forums and someone suggested this.

So, if you are having the same issue then see if this helps you.

I think Stardock Dev team should put this in their readme or somewhere so people don't waste their time.

Another issue is : The game doesn't install to where you tell it to. It just installs in c:\program files\stardock games\. This is ok, but some Development and QA issues there buddy.

btw, the main thing which is the game is pretty good. So thats a good thing in the end.

the game is pretty good

Thanks.

And sorry to hear that you had such a hard time getting it to install.  We haven't had anyone reporting that type of issue so far.
