Same move?

Something's fishy between the Vasari and TEC siege capitals...

Normally I play Vasari, but I occasionally like to play the other races to get different tactical perspectives.

As I was playing TEC, I noticed that the siege capital ship's ultimate ability (missle barrage) seemed to be a weaker version of the Vasari's "Phase missle swarm" ability.

Could anyone please clarify as to why such a high-end move would be a weakened version of another race's normal ability, or, if it's not weakened, explain precicely how the two abilities differ?

Much appreciated,

It probably is weakened, TEC specializes in weak but cheap ships, the thing that's good about them is there economy. I don't play TEC or Vasari, so I couldn't tell you if it truely is a weakened version or not.

the missile barrage gains power with the upgrades. like most tec ships the initial upgrades arent especially major. once you get to lvl 3 on an ability then it becomes highly effective.

The thing is, Missle barrage dosen't have an upgrade... It's one of those abilities that you get at level 6. What I thought was that those abilities are supposed to be very powerful compared to the rest of their abilities, and yet I find that an ability that a ship gets at level 1 turns out to be better.

true, but the power of the missiles increases at the tech tree is built out. there are what...7 to 10 missile upgrades in the TEC tech tree?

Ah! I see what you mean.

Phase Missile Swarm fires a single volley of missiles at a relatively low number of targets, doing fairly high damage to each of them.

Missile Barrage fires many volleys one after the other at all enemy targets within a large range. Each volley individually does low damage, but the high number of volleys makes the total possible damage per target for the ability very high. The capital ship using Missile Barrage must remain stationary until all volleys are fired.

Neither ability is modified by their respective race's research.

Since we got an IC post in this thread I thought it would be worth asking, is it true that Missile Barrage is completed bugged and does no damage?

(I haven't looked closely enough myself to tell)

To Steve Mackay: I had no idea that missle barrage was a multiple-volley attack, I suppose I'll have to read it's description more closely. Still, since it's a multiple-volley attack, that would explain it's deceptively low damage value. Thanks!
