In MP Online Mode, What Does "Team" Mean to You?

I have played 2 or 3 games online so far and now I am really excited because I learned to host as well.  You can play teams or FFA's.  My personal nature always draws me to team play.  I like being part of a team.  But sometimes I feel as if my teammates are more interested in helping themselves and ONLY themselves.  In other words, they select "teams" so they know who won't attack them.  I am the kind of player who keeps in constant communication trying to at least coordinate some type of attack/defense.  Letting my allies know my weakness so that they may support me while possibly having me address their weaknesses.  It is sad when an AI player is actually more helpful than a human teammate.

Thoughts?

Unfortunately that is true of most "public" online play in any game these days.

I would suggest finding a few people you enjoy playing with, who have the same ideal in mind. I believe there is a "Multiplayer Organizer" forum here somewhere in which you could post a request for like-minded players to contact you. :) I doubt you're alone.

I'll happily play as a team - but are you US or Euro? Because based on the length that games can be it could be a problem...

The problem is the maps.

Large Random offers itself usually as 4 sets of 1 vs 1.

However soon ill be releasing my mappack in 1.1 , and it will have better teamwork elements in it. Just an example of one of my simpler maps that will enhance teamwork

This map is called War_Fields. Teamwork is important. Every player gets a nice basic start with 3 asteroids to capture. This eases the player into the game. This is very much a medium skilled map. Once at the frontlines , there are 3 points of interest. The Central Volcanos ,the plasma storms neutral asteroids and deserts. The 4 players have to work with each other inorder to secure the middle , often working in pairs.

Forexample the two in the middle work together to grab the volcanos , then the center right player will send help to the furthest right player to secure the plasma storm , whilst the center left player will help the left player with the desert...etc.

Enhancement of teamwork is high on my maps.

I agree, it is very helpful when people work togather as a team and communicate as much as possible. I certainly try to do this myself, although it has gotten me some sarcastic comments :( but I personally find that the only way to beat an organized team is to be organized yourself.

I played a random map and the spawns put one guy from the other team into pretty much the middle of our team (two of us on one side, two on the other). And although we killed him, he lasted long enough and kept us from taking full control of our back area long enough to cost us the game, and why did he manage to pull it off? Because his team mates helped him, not only by timing their attacks, but also by giving resources to him (which is stupidly rare in MP I've found, and often when it is brought up, your team mates will expect you to give them whatever they need and then they don't return the favor, at all). Not of course that this really differs from any other game (aside from the overall good AI control).

Anyway, I'd be quite interested in putting togather a group of regulars if others are, I did that in my last game (Supcom) and it made it not only fun, but also added more depth to the gameplay imo.
