I am also new to the game. I have won several singleplayer games and the AI even set to hard is pretty predictable.

Best bet to learn is to play some single player against easy AI and build up to hard.
Also play with more then 1 AI in the game. MP is a big step up and can be too fast paced for some people who just installed it (some people handle it ok).

They should have a lobby specifically for noobs.

I have a reasonable understanding of the single player game, and played my first online last night. Frankly I found finding any game hardwork, let alone one specifically for my kind. I understand each game can last 2-6 hours so there will be less 'free' players around.

Numbers are down during the week as people are at work etc...
I find it hard to get a game at night during the week (Australia) - weekend is OK as during the day is US evening etc...

Not a bad idea. Perhaps it might be better if the default lobby were for everyone and there could be two more channels for players based on the number of games that they've won under all of their various user names--say a second lobby folks can go to if they've won more than 10 games and a third lobby folks can go to if they've won more than 25 games.

Would have to watch out for people looking to boost their stats by fighting only new players.

I did my fair share of College LANs before the summer but that was months ago, im rusty, and I feel like trying out Vasari, so count me in.

I'm about to play my first online game so hit me up.

Another nub here, can't even beat hard cpu Would be most interested in 2v2 co-op games, I could use Skype, Vent or TS for VoIP.

I'm not really a nub, but I'd be happy to play sandbox with nubs and pause to give tips or try things out if that interested anybody.  I'll be on for a couple of hours Satuday morning EST

What speed settings are used for online? I've only played on full slow/max fleets, what would make for better practice?

Nothing can top playing someone with a 99 win-0 loss record only to find them "disconnect" when things go bad for them.

You then realise you didn't beat a good player, you beat a flamming a**hole.

I would support a lobby for newbie players/inexperianced players.
