Both i guess.

Probably half of all my favourite games i discovered by word of mouth. And not only that, but when i see interesting games in the shop or on Ebay, it is helpful if i remember somone had talked about it in some forum somewhare.

Freespace came after 'Descent free space' which i have played but did not like because the graphics was a bit irritating to the eye. You dont get that problem in Freespace.

Another game i forgot to mention that i love is Battlezone 2

I wish there were a Freespace 3. I freakin' loved the first two.

There's not. OP is wrong.

As for my favorite types of games - I like to blow shit up, and shoot suckers in the face.

Straight up.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X, Deluxe Edition.

I have always wanted to get Flight Sim, and I finally did this past week.

My nephew likes it a lot, as well. And he is mainly into combat sims.

Learn to fly a variety of aircraft, from small props to sea planes to gliders to helicopters to 747's.

It is quite fun, for both this 52 year old as well as my 18 year old Marine nephew.

I bought one copy, and assumed that because it needed activation that Matthew would need his own copy to play in anything other than 'Trial Version' mode.
It installed and activated on both machines just fine, and we are able to play over the LAN with one another. Kinda cool to play as pilot/co-pilot or one following/messing with the other.
Don't know if it will work in multiplayer over the internet with the single activation code yet, though.

But, it is a great game, to say the least.

My favourite game of all time: System Shock 2. Great story, great voice acting, at times terrifying atmosphere, and one of the few genuinely replayable FPS games out there.

Hack78

I have heard of freelancer before, people on the Egosoft/X universe forum mentioned it as a similar game.

Half life, I have breifly played that once at a LAN night with freinds but i did not really get a chance to see if i liked it or not since they were using the no respawn until new game setting, so i spent most of the time not playing!

I have heard of doom, havnt played it.

Live TA

Havn't heard of the rest.

Sorry to keep splitting up my posts but i am at work and only get a spare moment here and there during the day. I will try and reply as many as i can before i go offline for the long weekend.

Thanks all for giving your time to post

Moosetek13

You will find most older games will allow up to 3 LAN players per game disk. So basically any 1 computer game will be good for you and your partner to play together, just the same as if you bought 1 board game and played that together.

Most new game companies don't think that 1 couple deserves 1 game, they think you should by the game twice! Of course this idea totally stinks and all i can say to that is... whats the quickest way to the console game store!!!!

Haoh

What is an FPS game?

Kyle Fesy

Thanks, i havn't heard of those games except X3 of course, which is exceptional, all i would ask is that they reign in the AI piolate collisions with stations and asteroids a bit!

I think i have seen Rome in the shop but i did not buy it, so it must not have impressed me all that much to look at on the shelf.

General Homsar

Havn't i seen your forum ID in another forum? Galciv, Civ4 or Egosoft? Anyway i havn't heard of any of those games at all?

CaptainK230

Thanks for the links, i will try and have a look when i get time next week.

Once again, i really appreciate all the input, and feel free to add as much more in as you all can think of, i will be back to see what interesting games people come up with next Tuesday, by all

PC -

Alpha Centauri still rules the roost all these years on - best writing, ideas, and characterisation in a game ever.

Birth of the Federation - if you're into space 4x games and Star Trek this one just oozes authenticity. Okay there are memory leaks and some balance issues but it's still the only space TBS to properly model contact and assimilation of minor races.

Mount and Blade - independent and still in development but oh so playable. Medieval action/strategy/RPG hybrid with the focus on combat on horseback. You can try a fully featured demo at Taleworlds now for free!

Dungeon Crawl - totally free and totally replayable. Incredible depth and difficulty - the best RPG out there (as long as you don't mind not having any grpahics!)

Grim Fandango - last great graphical adventure from Lucasarts. Still looks and plays beautifully.

Playstation -

Shadow of the Colossus - awe insipring.

Silent Hill 2 - beautiful and terrifying.

Guitar Hero - different and fun.

Old School -

Contra 3 - still the best arcade game I've ever played

Mario Kart - needs no explanation

FPS = first person shooter. System Shock 2 shares a lot of similarities with Deus Ex in that they incorporate a lot of RPG elements. I personally tried to get into Deus Ex but found the combat really unsatisfying and never got that far in the game.

I just finished replaying Deus Ex after a few years. It's freakin' brilliant. I think, ultimately, I prefer it over System Shock 2 - although the latter is awesome, too.

To answer the above questions:

1. The Galciv forum

2. I'm not suprised; all those are either older games, slipped under the radar, or both.

BTW if you want discription of them, just ask.

I thought of giving a big preamble about where I'm coming from, tastes, etc, but the hell with it.

The Witcher. I haven't experienced such a thrill since Diablo_1.

Yeah I really would like to give it more of a go eventually. Funny thing is that nearly a decade later there haven't really been any other games that have had that level of depth with character and story development. I haven't myself played Bioshock yet as I don't have an acceptable computer to run that, but by all accounts it's a dumbed-down version of System Shock.

I know! It's kind of ridiculous. I mean, I loves me a game of 'run around and shoot everything that moves' as much as anyone else, but the storyline of Deus Ex is what kept me playing even though it was such a FREAKING LONG GAME. I mean, I'm not kidding - easily 50 hours of gameplay if you want to truly plumb the depths, and that's ridiculous for an FPS game.

/me wishes companies would stop making stupid multiplayer deathmatch games and make another magnum opus like Deus Ex or System Shock.

Is Europa Universalis 3 better than EU2?

Also, I didn't see Romance of the Three Kingdoms on your list, and it seems like it would fit in with the Lords of the Realm 2 crowd.

If you like running a business, try Capitalism 2.

If you like sabotaging other's businesses while you do it, and having a political career, and taking your rivals to court (or blackmailing them), and having a long-lasting dynasty, try Europa 1400.

If you like running a whole country with a detailed economy and lots of wars, try EU2 (or 3, but I haven't played it - it needs pixelshader)

If you like running the economy side more than the war side, try Victoria.

All those are PC games.

If you like mindlessly blowing things up (and let's be honest, if you don't sometimes there's something seriously wrong with you), go play Unreal Tournament, the greatest multiplayer shooter in existence.

Straight up.

In fact, I'm gonna go play some UT right now. :CONGRAT:
