Newbie Question: my mouse crashes!?

Just bought the game yesterday... looks cool. Would like to play.

At about the 3min mark, the mouse crashes. The pointer disappears. I can move the mouse around and highlight things, even act on them, but I have no idea where the pointer actually is. Even better, when I quit the game, the mouse pointer is STILL gone in windows environment until/unless I restart the computre.

Installed recent patch 1.05... no help.

Anybody got a clue for me?

Have you tried adjusting the settings for your mouse in the Control Panel?
You might have some pre-defined settings that make the mouse act strange when a game is detected.

I'm running XP with A decent setup, runs damn near everything perfectly... I have the same problem, can't fix through changing mouse settings, can't change through game settings, and the mouse stays crashed 'till I reboot. I was playing 15 mins ago, everything going well, then click, there goes the mouse... Here I am now, on the forum, after checking a few other forums (for fixes, so far nothing) and doing so without rebooting, I still have no mouse as I type this. My life is irritating enough without my relaxation being glitchier than my relationships (lol). FYI same issues as Phizbin; cursor disappears, still in use, cursor image in game frozen in place post glitch though actual cursor (no-image/invisible) still functional, etc.

Anyway... I would hope to see a fix for this

Some games a have a "hardware cursor" option or commandline parameter, that's supposed to fix this. I've no idea if sins has one, though.

BTW, i have a wireless mouse, and when the batteries run out, the cursor doesn't disappear.

Are you using any special mouse software (Logitech Mouseware, etc)? I believe some ATI users with this issue have also solved it by updating their video drivers.

Hey guys...

Thanks for thoughts.

No, not using any sort of special mouse or mouse software. It's wired directly to computer with software right off the shelf with the system. I'd think I was nuts except I see Shampdrought has the same problem (above).

Is there a way to escalate this issue on the forum?

Do you have an ATI video card? Try updating your dviers if so, as above.

Found it, looking for this thread took a bit but I did... just to help ye' out... I'm convinced it's the video drivers. Go and update ASAP, nvidia just released one that covers most of their drivers. My cursor now only has minor glitches which I think are computer resource related, if you get the same then not (sypmtoms: mouse will appear to freeze like before-solution: don't touch your mouse for 2-5 seconds and it should click to where-ever it has been moved to since it froze), hope that helps! Any other problems relating to the mouse, I'll check the forum in a week or so an' see about looking in on it... so I'm thinking it's not the mouse drivers (considering the issue only applies to the game and in my case post-gameplay).

BTW, I installed this on my old work laptop and had this issue, updated the intel video drivers and got my cusor back.

This is somewhat of a related question so ill try posting it here. I just bought the game and during the first tutorial i discovered a problem with drag selecting, to select a group of ships. I wouldnt worry bout it for now except i cant continue in the tutorial until i accomplish this. hehe  I would like to finish the tutorial just to see the rest of it. My mouse seems to be working fine otherwise. Its left clicking fine and all, just cant seem to get it to drag select. If anyone recognizes this issue or has an idea, it would be appreciated.

I am using a wireless trackball but the batteries are fine and like I said, it seems to be working fine otherwise. A way to just bypass this part of the tutorial would be fine with me as well. I just wanna finish tutorial, ya know. Looks like its gonna be a fun game. Thanx for any help or ideas though.

If you can't see the cursor, try updating your video drivers as above.
