Space Rangers Game

Ok, I got the 1st Space Rangers game yesterday and I am sucking horribly at it. It's quite irritating. It's fun, yet I feel like I can never accomplish anything. The whole point is to kill Klissans. Problem is, even when i have nice hull and 4 guns, i go to any of the systems where they are, and 7 ships come at me, i kill one, and die before i can escape with the protoplasm. Is there something I'm totally missing? I'd like to play it, but I'm simply at a loss. There's no online walk thru's or strategy guides. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :D

Hi!

I can't tell you what to do in SR-1, but in SR-2 I couldn't alone attack a system with robots for a _VERY_ long time. The only one variant I've had some small success was retreat-fire with 3 missile launchers. With a very fast ship I ran large circles around the sun and fired missiles at chasing robots. But usually I ran out of missiles before I ran out of hostile robots. ;)

IMO your best bet would be to mix-in in an already ongoing battle for star system.

I have play the space rangers 2, but i suppose they both quite similar. You need to be very powerful in terms weapons, shield, armour cladding and repair droids. I myself dont go in alone during late game, watch for battleship and military station movements against the enemy, they have a higher chance of victory if you join them.

I played both (actually I like SR2 a lot more) - my strategy is to either be late to a battle and just sweep up some 'free' ectoplasm and perhaps a damaged Klissan or two; or make hit & runs to system where I know the Klissan presence isn't very dense.

Other than that... attacking a hostile system on your own generally seems to be suicide.

Ok cool. Do you have to play SR-1 to know what's going on in SR-2? Because I hear SR-2 is way more fun, and if I won't be clueless story-wise, I'll just play that one instead.

I only have 2 and never felt like I had missed a large chunk of story or anything. It is a great game.

Hmm I might have to give 2 a try again. I got it a while ago, but just couldn't get into it very much.

I'm really missing the option to put SR2 into windowed mode though. Is there a commandline switch?

Windows behaves a bit strange when one monitor is fullscreen in 1024 and the other in 1280...
