Sorry to Say, But....

Ive read a lot of post of people complaning that this game crashes to much, or that it is to easy, or its not balanced, and frankly everything else under the sun.  The truth is, from my point of view at least, is that most of these people are complaining because this is not the game they expected.  Unfourtunetly, I fall into that category.  This game, although fun to play for bits at a time, is not what I was expecting and in a way I am dissapointed.

Don't ask me where I got this from, but when I first read about this game I was thinking it would have much more 4x attributes to it.  I mean a realtime 4x isnt exactly new, Imperium Galactica II is an example of this, although not perfect one.  This game, to me, is simply a super massive RTS, with everything found in an RTS expanded ten times and no one can argue that with me. I mean a 4X game is more than the explore, exterminate, expand, and whatever the last one is.  A 4X game is about good diplomacy system, balancing resources, managing your population and ledgers, and that overall feeling of controlling an empire.

I guess my point is, is that I thought this game was gonna have more 4X features in it.  I still like the game, but it was not the ultimate collaboration of the 4X genre and the RTS genre.  But i must say that SINS is the first game in a long long time heading in the right direction.  I guess my hope is, in the next few years when the sequel comes out it will introduce more 4X stuff.

Ok thats my rant, probably didnt make much sense, and I aint gonna proof read it. Just would like to here what people think about this.  Don't tell me to download the DEMO first either, I learned that lesson already

For clarification again, the OP did not say he\she hadnt played the game yet. Read the post.

I agree that a patch could clear up many of the issues, but not what the OP had said. I do agree that Sins is heading in the right direction, and I eagerly await Sins 2.

The OP also mentions the fact that the game is not balanced or even remotely fair in online play (regardless of what you think of single player), that the issue of minidumping which STILL continues (happened to me twice last night) despite several patches already, and other debilitating crashes and bugs that make online gameplay horific at best.

He mentions that other people are complaining such, but that's hardly the point of his post. Bugs will be fixed (which the devs have been working on non-stop), but the extra 4X-iness whose lack is his primary complaint can't happen in a patch. The "big" multiplayer crash fix will be released shortly, and in fact has been available for a while now as a test fix.

Comments about future plans by Frogboy, Yarlen, myself, etc, hardly detract from patch work since we're not the developers. Meanwhile, Ironclad has been working on the coming patches behind the scenes.

300,000+ copies sold and 114 players online at prime time says more then any statement I could make on your forums. I highly doubt 299,886 players are playing the game solely in single player.

People need to understand what 114 playres online means. It means that there are 114 players currently NOT in games but rather in the lobby. It is not the number of people playing online.

i agree i will pass this on to my buddies they told me Stardock and Co takes care of the Client less likely again i have learned my lesson i will take my money some were and buy a deff game

Perhaps you can point out a PC game where the underlying game experience is completely altered in a patch. I'll certainly buy it.

We've already released several free updates that have done more than just "fix bugs".  And more updates are on the way.

But the idea that we would, in a patch, introduce a whole series of major new features as part of "supporting" the game is insane.  If I could put up a questionaire that let us prevent people with unreasonable expectations from buying the game, I would.  It's a two-way street.

Emperor1G - I'm sensing some hostility :P Can you give us an example of a game that you are glad you payed the princely sum of $40 for? One that came perfectly balanced and met all possible expectations right out of the box? We'd really like to play that game too, so let us know ASAP.

What about one where the prez of the coproduction company responded to your rant (albeit to disagree) within the day? How about one where there were 5 patches within 4 months of release in response to community feedback? Or one where those patches addressed minor irritations as well as gamebreakers?

Point out that game, please, the one you seem to feel you have played somewhere else. The one we are all certain you are entitled to, having earned it through measured, insightful argument and hard work.

I'm sorry, chief, but this game rocks. It rocks hard, single player, multiplayer, bugs, warts and all. And it's only getting better, because that's how the dev team is making it, at their own pace because there are 9 of them and 400,000 of us, and because they actually take pride in their work.

Meanwhile you, Emperor1G, are going to spend your money on all those other, better-supported games to which you are entitled. Give me names, buddy. Put your money where your mouth is and give me a title for that magnificent game or games. I haven't found one better yet, but you obviously have, so spill.

I think that many of the items on your wishlist are slated for the first expansion pack.In other words, rather then taking care of the above laundry list of issues that SHOULD have been addressed either before launch or in the patches followng release, you're going to force your customers to BUY the expansion to fix your game? I wasn't aware Id need to spend more money for you to take care of the product that you should have fixed long ago since release. Thanks for the warning, I will spend my money and time elsewhere. Ive learned a valuable lesson where Stardock and Co. are concerned.

okay, if you are only about buying the core game and not buying expansions, then im glad you dont play everquest, or any other mmo's. if you do, quit now, cause it only gets worse for you............

While I don;t have much to say about the balancing or the multi-player issues, since I play only single player games, I find myself easily bored with the game. I know many people will say to play online, against real players, it's more challenging, blah blah blah... I'm not an online player...

But I do find the 4x elements sorely lacking. I feel no personal attachment to my "empire" whatsoever... I move from planet to planet, colonizing, building orbital structures, move on... It doesn't feel like an "empire" at all, such as a 4x game would give...

It's rare I even load up the game anymore...
