Sins of a Solar Empire Troll

None

This game is boring as hell.  Yeah it looks pretty but the game play is extremely slow and limited.  It is not worth the $40 I paid for it.  Why can't someone take MOO2 and update the graphics.

Looks like a piss poor attempt at a spambot to me. I call it an "insult spam bot" or "Insulspam-bot" for short...er.

Well have you faced Hard AI (maybe not just 1, but more)? And have you ever played a 4X game? This isn't just an RTS.

Why do people come on the forums to rant about this game?

Maybe they are hired by rival companies who fear the competition? Like I suspected the DoS attacks on these forums were around SINS release?

I've removed the spam link and this user has been dealt with.

Well I agree it is a slow game and I wish that Stardok and Ironclad would make a new speed to change the rates so they go higher than the "fast setting" as I use that and I spend about 3-6 hours finishing a medium sized map game. The game though is probably the best game I've ever played for the RTS genre. You might like Age of Empires III better since it's a faster paced game.

What the hell is MOO2 anyway?

Whenever something gets removed, my curiosity always piques and I think "damn, I wonder what was removed..."

Only one of the best PC strategy games ever. (Master of Orion 2)

Thanks, Yarlen. I submitted that post before realizing there is no "report bad post" at the main topic level (something to be corrected later?), only in replies, and I couldn't edit it afterward.

uh...id argue for TA

If by TA you mean Tele-Arena, then I agree 100%. In fact, i'm playing TA right now!

You're in the tavern.
There is a barkeep here.
There is nothing on the floor.

sorry but nope....
TA - TOTAL ANNIHILATION
it was still one of the most played online rts games TEN YEARS after release...are u f***ing kidding ME!!!!

TA was a absolute monumental turn in rts games. to still be around after so long (and the fan base is ridiculous) is just nuts.
I played it for several years and loved every minute
TA blew every other rts game out of the water for years
In fact TAs reimergence sparked chris tayler to make supcom (TAs sequel)

PLEASE SEE THIS WEBSITE BEFORE COMMENTING
a list of rewards TA has recieved over the years (INCLUDING THE Number one real time strategy game of all time(top ten list), gamespy 2004

btw...dont get me wrong...
i play sins now and love it.
really u cant compare sins to ta(total annihilation) and say ones better as they are completely different experiances.
sins is rt4x and theres more to it than blowin s*** up (diplomicy, research, scouting)
ta is geared towards just creating armies and destroying everything in epic battles (the name says all)

Yea TA is awesome.

Infact the spirit of TA lives on in TA spring which you can play online for free and its free to download.

I think numbers for that game, GMT 4pm - 250-300 players online.

so he paid 40 dollar's...thats what, like 25,81 euro?....thats cheap for a new game.....

Master of Orion II = Very, very tasty apples.
Total Annihilation = Very, very tasty oranges.

They're both, possibly, the very best games in their respective genre, but they are NOT comparable.

They're both in my top-ten best games of all time list, but they're NOT comparable.

The first post was pathetic spam, but I agree on one point; I'd absolutely love for MOOII to get remade, with no changes except new graphics.

MOOIII was utter trash compared to MOOII.

GalCivII, which I just bought the other day, is a fantastic game and very, very close to being what those of us who remember MOOII want, but, sadly, there's still a long list of things it's missing that MOOII had, and only a few (admittedly very nice) things it adds that MOOII didn't have.

By the way, for the record, Sins is some pretty good tasting pears. It isn't oranges, and it sure as heck isn't apples.

Upfront my view on the game vacillating between "luke-warm" and "good".

You dislike a game. What is the first thing you do now?

A) Play another game which you enjoy.
B) Bitch about it in a forum. (x)

Well..there is some value to bringing things to a forum.
(1) If it is done constructively it may help create "critical mass" to help guide the developers for the future (patches, expansions etc). For the record I don't think the OP did much to constructively critique the game.

If I may expand on one thing the OP wrote:

Yeah it looks pretty but the game play is extremely slow and limited.

Yes...graphics are cool (agree) and the engine runs smooth (at least on my CPU). If by game play being limited (s)he means: there are only 3 races, building options are maximum of say 12(?), and ships are limited to 13...I would agree. Take a look at other "strategy games" and these numbers are on the low side (CIV IV = dozen+ races, units are in the 30s, buildings are in the 30s). To the games credit the races have semi-completely independent tracts of research and ships...more similar to say HOMM III-V in this manner.

Game is also missing things like "random events" (supernovas?, blackholes?, Sabatoge, Infected space pony meat, etc), the "eXplore" function is just find out what is out there...no real benefits for finding space debris (see GAL CIV II), etc etc.

(2) Ranting on a board also allows others who have not purchased the game get additional "mini-reviews" before deciding to purchase.

Personally, I purchased the game because of the rave reviews it got from pcgameworld, etc. I also looked at the board and at the time there were much less "rants" and have noticed the moderators will remove/lock them occasionally. I think part of my "luke-warmness" of the game is because expectations were so high from reviews like 93% of 4.5 of 5 stars.
