CTD when Zonelab runs in background

When playing ToA, I have Zonelab running in the background.  It does routine scans and other maintenance which sometimes causes pop-ups.  When the pop-up occurs, ToA will minimize.  Upon aknowledging the popup and clicking on the tool bar to restore GS2, I get a message that says something like "Invalid memory" and then CTD.

Anyone else having this issue?  I can disable Zonelab, but would prefer not too.

Are you running TA fullscreen or windowed? Sounds like it might be the same as the Atl-Tab bug when playing fullscreen.

I am playing full screen. Obviously, when the pop-ups occur, that windows the game. But yeah, it sounds like it. is there a resolution?

I saw in another thread where the devs know what the problem is but are having a hard time fixing it. They said it's failing in DirectX code. As a work-around, you can change the settings to run the game in a window. I've done that, and made the window size the same size as my desktop. Seems to work well.

With Zone Alarm, I have a "game mode" which I can turn on. It has a "deny all alerts" or some such so that the pop-ups you are having don't happen. With the internet locked out and this on deny all alerts, I get no pop-ups, no interruptions. I can even turn off the anti-virus if I want, although It makes little difference either way.

Even with the latest patch, which allows an alt-tab, ToA only lets me do it once before it crashes. With the system locked down, it won't matter... provided you can live without an update or email for few hours... ;)

Any idea how to get that set up with Zonelab?

From what I can tell after a quick search... Zonelab(s) used to be the company that did zone alarm, which is now owned by checkpoint... (yeah... go corporate america!)

They redirect right to the zone alarm site... I currently run the Firewall/anti-virus combo, so I am not sure if this will work for you...

Right click on the "Z" icon, lower right corner... there is a list, enable internet lock, stop all internet activity and game mode. I lock out the internet completely, then enable game mode with all set to deny.

According to the website, these are not available in the free version. The only way you could do it then is to suspend the program, or go into the options and then set alerts to off. I have always had alerts set to off, even back in the days of using the free zone alarm. It just shuts off the pop ups, which is what is causing your troubles. Those are found by clicking the tabs on the left side of the actual program. Right click the "Z", and restore the control panel...

Hopefully helpful... And not to be a salesman, but the $30 I spent on the AV and FW together has been well worth it. I'm going on the third year now... which only cost me $19.99... No hassles, no worries, no update issues. Alot nicer than the freebies I lived off of for so long.

Thanks. I got the "Game Mode" to work and haven't had a CTD since. ::knocks wood::
