xp will not boot, system does not move past login screen

windows is starting up... forever

It seems my system will not move past the windows is starting up... phase of logging in with any logonscreen active.
The biggest problem is trying to boot to the previous good configuration does not help, it results in the same behavior. Is there a way to get rid of logonscreens without actually booting into windows? since I can only get to a repair console. Even safe mode does not work, it also hangs. The only way I have been able to get rid of the problem has been to run setup from the xp cd and then choose the repair option of the setup program. I would like an easier way, since this kills all my updates.

hemanherecomes.. that will have absolutely no effect on what he's trying to fix.

mhguda.. is it hanging or is it erroring? If it is hanging, you might want to let it sit for a few hours and it should de-hang itself. If its an error, just keep clicking OK and it should eventually bring you to a login screen.

if LogonStudio is the issue: ctrl+alt+del twice will cause the windows default to appear

that sounds more like BootSkin

if it's BootSkin causing the issue - generally you boot into safe mode then uninstall BootSkin

if you can, Boot off a Windows CD and remove \windows\system32\drivers\vidstub.sys.

If you have BootSkin installed and if it's BootSkin causing the issue - generally you boot into safe mode then uninstall BootSkin or boot off a Windows CD and remove \windows\system32\drivers\vidstub.sys.
