I have given up on this game.

I have no faith in this game anymore, due to the fact that stardock wont say when its released in the UK (if it is?) None of the shops round here have even heard of it. So please inform us when we can buy it in the shops in the UK.
I cant and wont buy it from online, and if that is the only way to get it, i'll have to stick with MOO3, unfortunately. >:(

;) Stardock is only the developer. You should complain at "Strategy First" which is the publisher.

On the other hand you have to admit that for such a small company the offer to download it directly and have a CD send to your place is as far as stardock can go to remedy the sitouation.

Unfortunately, if you don't buy it, you'll be missing out on a great game. The rest was well said in #1 response.

Buy it and have it sent to you by stardock. That's what I did (although I ended up downloading it before it arrived, I could not wait ;) ).
And there are some shops in europe selling it (I saw some posts in this forum saying so).

Stuck with Moo3 and missing out on GalCiv. Poor, poor you! ;)

In honesty it's a shame that the release in Europe is so much trouble but if there was ever a game worthy of getting, GalCiv is. Like stated before, this isn't a developer's issue, but a publisher's issue. I think that Strategy First didn't have real high expectations of this game at first. That's why they didn't really bother to find a distributor in Europe. Now that the game is such a hit in the US, SF must feel pretty stupid.

I've downloaded it myself (living in Holland) and I've never ever regretted this. I didn't even bother to have the cd sent to me.

... online +$10 would get you a hard copy of the game. As with previous responses, it looks like a great option, and many people seem to do it. :D

BTW, we're not terribly happy about the delay in getting into Europe, especially UK since there's no translation involved. But we have no control over it. We just make the game, we have no rights to distribute it beyond this website.

I understand that its the publisher's problem, and im hanging to get this game, but i havent got a credit card, and therefore cant order online. Also not many people in the UK know anything bout this game (i have a friend who works for Game, it used to be EB, and she had'nt heard a thing bout it, & she's a massive Space Empire game fan!)

That must be painful, Frogboy. You guys make such a good game that becomes a sleeper hit, and the regular channels of distribution just do not handle it well outside North America. Well, the publisher may have had no expectation of such success, but it is bad for them to be slow reacting to the demand. Business is business! Perhaps online distribution is going to rule someday, but fighting for shelf space is still the predominant reality in game marketing. Afterall, I am one of those fossils that still buys most of my games from the brick and mortar stores and pays in cash.

Anyway, Galciv has a strong player community behind it and a development team that goes the extra mile. That is a good combination. Sure, there are a couple of bumps on the road, but, to put it simply, your customers support you and you support your customers. That combination equals success in my book.

Austrian player here...

It´s very difficult to get the game here as well.
I obtained my copy from a small software store that imported it from the US.
There should be something done about an european publisher.

I downloaded it a while ago, the updates are great, I have kept an eye on this game it received excellent reviews at Gamesdomain. The UK distribution is a problem, but personally, feel they have made the absolute best of a bad situation. Now I am lucky and have a fast broadband connection so took the option to download. Didn't bother with the CD, made my own from the download! What I like was the fact that GalCiv costs a lot less than most brand new games (with exchange rate came through at £28.93). I think this was probably the best value purchase I have made in a long time!
Well done StarDock for leading the way. When will the idea that cutting out the distributor (and their fees/costs) means that more money ends up in the hands of the developer? (unless I am mistaken?)

I just wonder why other Strategy First titles are common in Europe. For example, Legion or Hearts of Iron can be found in every software shop.

Was HOI published by Strategy First in Europe? Paradox are a Swedish company and seem to have different publishers in different countries, certainly with EU. I must admit I don't see many Strategy First games on the shelves here in the UK, a couple of budget games such as 'Rails Across America' is about it.

It was Koeth (sp?) that published HoI in the UK I think, they delayed it by about 5 months >:(

If the first poster lives anywhere near the strat plus shop they could drive round and buy the US version from them.

I'm in the US...I downloaded it, when I easily could have bought it (at the same price) and it worked wonderfully. I think this sort of thing is the answer. It's a credible and efficient way of getting what you want (the game, NOW) and Stardock getting what it wants (wide availability).

If you don't have a credit card, I dunno. Get a debit card, maybe?

Paradox Games used Strategy First for the US but Koch Media for the UK. This seems to have worked well and where I live (Glasgow, Scotland) there's always copies of Hearts of Iron on the shelves in GAME stores. Koch usually seems to delay game release until a couple of patches have come out though (less support hassle for them).

Maybe a geo-split distro deal for GalCiv2 ? ;)

"Im really not able to buy from the net, or id have iot by now!"

I don't know if you won't buy over the net because you don't have a credit card or if you just don't like using it over the 'net, but if it's the latter strat plus also take phone orders. The number is on their site.

I got the game in France. I understand you may not want to buy on the web. I wonder what can be done from the players' side to get the publisher to move themselves and make the game available worldwide. It is a pity that this game is not more widely distributed since it is probably THE game that can boost turn-based strategy games.

And if Europe has that much of a delay I dread to think how long it will be before us Aussies see it in the stores (Luckily for me I'll be in America in August and can get it then if it isn't in Australia by then !!! :))
