Nice Job By Bill Sheely

Just saw the GalCiv homepage, where an event editor by Bill Sheely is mentioned. Looks like a great job, kudos to Bill for making such a nice modding tool. :D

Thanks! I'm happy I made the front page. I'll be expanding the proggy to include all the data files. Writing the code takes time, so I couldn't estimate when I'll be done.

SB Modules are done and in testing.

Techs are maybe 75% done. What's slowing me down is I have to parse out the .imp, .ship, and .invtactic files in order to display the tech dependencies properly. The good news is that code will be reused when I add Improvements, Ships, and Invasion Tactics.

Once again, thanks for the kind words!

Great work Bill! I'll test it right away when I get home tonight. It looks very promising though. Good to see we have such talented people in the community that help the community improve the game along with the developers!

As an active member of another modder community (Hearts of Iron's C.O.R.E. project) I'm very much used to Notepad, but software like this should really help bring new talent on board. Great job!

Thanks Bill, for the great program. It's really helped with the modding I've done so far. I still start out with the notepad to give me a rough idea of the mod, but then I move to your program to polish it up and catch any mistakes I might of made. Saves me a lot of trouble in the end. :)

Yup, awesome tool!

One thing I was wondering (I didn't notice last nite.. it was late when I messed with it), is there a way to increase (if even slightly) how often Events occur?

It would be a blast to say.. make many smaller effect events, and make them occur much more often. Or *decrease* the time between events.. making a huge one that may well change the outcome of the game.

Would be neat.. if this feature is in, please lemme know, thanks! And thanks for the hard work Bill!

@Alf Melin: Agreed. I'm (obviously) comfortable with Notepad, but not everyone is. I wanted to make it as easy as possible for people to modify the base data files, as well as keeping them from writing mods that crash GalCiv. I think GalCiv rocks, and I know that a thriving mod community really gives a game "legs". I just wanted to help that process along. Stardock is special and should be supported.

@fleabitfox: Unfortunately, no. There's no way to effect an event's frequency of occurrence at this time. The Probability field is not used by GalCiv. However, if Stardock modifies the base engine to add this functionality, I'll modify the Writer to make use of this change.

@All: Wow! Thanks for all the kind words. I'm glad you like it. If you have any suggestions or functionality you'd like to see added, be sure to swing by the Mods section.
