Quick question about planet improvements.

Hey all,

I was searching for specific information on how the planetary bonuses work.  Like, say my planet has a 400% manufacturing bonus.  If I build my manufacturing capital on that space, is the manufacturing capital affected?  Or are the bonus spots only for the basic factory (and research, food, etc) equivalents?  Basically, is it futile to build things like a powerplant, civilization wonder, or galactic wonder in these slots?  Or do they actually get the bonus and affect the whole civilization?

Thanks

No, only build the improvements that actually do the manufacturing, researching, morale. Improvements that give boost such as the manufacturing capital are best build on non-bonus tiles, else you are wasting your precious bonuses!

Hey, Verkinix. Good question; easy answer. Any improvement that gives a +(points) will receive the bonus. Any improvement that gives a +(%) will not. A factory will receive the bonus, a manufacturing capital, or power plant will not. As for the wonders, they are a case by case basis, but the basic rule still applies. Some are more adaptable than others. The Thalan achievement "Hyperion Matrix" gives a +(points) to pop, manufacturing, and research. You can place this one on any of the three types of bonus tiles, and it will gain the bonus. (But only for the one type). This is something to think about when placing these. Do you plunk it down now, or wait until you colonize a planet that has the type of tile you are looking for?

Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

Is that why Influence and Morale buildings give a +% bonus, and ARE affected by their respective bonus tiles? :)

That this inconsistency could be causing these questions is not a foreign thought to me...

lol. You're right, of course. The OP was talking about manufacturing, so my mind didn't even go there. (Very late night at work.) Good catch.

Thank you guys so much. That is alot of help. To think of all the games I built capital structures on bonus lots lol. I'd meant to ask this question before now, but never got around to it (having too much fun actually playing :)). I was always wondering why my economy was so poor even in beginner difficulty lol. Now I just feel silly. But anyway, I really appreciate your replies and for giving me non sarcastic answers that I'm accustomed to on other sites for asking newb questions.

Thanks again!

Dont ever hesitate to ask questions, I'm still learning after a couple of years at this game. People genuinely help each other on this Site, not silly one upmanship. Its a hugely deep game, and many many many ways to play it. No such thing as a "newb" question here, only a quest for information ;)

Ask questions, relax, and enjoy the Game!

Regards

Yes, you actually learn more stuff the more you play it. I, still play on the lower difficulties, to learn more of the stuff, as I don't find enough time for a lot of games :P

Hehe, you guys are great. This community is definitely one of the reasons I love stardock products. That and the fact that stardock products are premium and well supported.

While this thread is about game questions, I'm wondering if there is a way to make custom ships without scaling the research tree and gaining access to the larger hulls and such. I want to make custom ships for my custom race and have them automatically included when I start a new game. I figured out that I can set the ships when they are already created in the race creation screen. But I havent had alot of time to play and create my ships in game.

Further, is the a ship editor that isnt in the actual game?

Finally, how does the metaverse work? I keep reading about a sandbox feature, but I'm confused as to what that is. I actually hadnt used the metaverse prior to TA even though I've had DA since it's release. It looks like a fun feature, I just havent had much time to play around with it.

I know these are in depth questions, so links to other forum threads with detailed instructions would be greatly welcomed. Quick answers are welcome as well :)

Thanks all!

verkinix: Some quickie answers: For the custom ships, you can play the scenario map Battle of the Gods (or something to that effect) where all the technologies are researched and go from there. Unfortunately you can't use the ship editor outside the game...

Sandbox games are just normal games you play through the New Game button. They are called like that because you set your own goals and have fun. No predetermined scenario rules. Just like a playground sandbox.

The metaverse games are Galciv's 'multiplayer' feature. You play a game normally, and then you submit it and its score to the metaverse. It's just like a high score list, a hall of fame. Thus you can sort of compare how you do against other players.

Ahh, cool, thanks Achronous. I just wanted to make sure I wasnt missing something specific :) I will have to try out the scenario maps and build all my ships. Soon as finals are over, I'm spending a week just playing TA! Maybe I'll get some Sins in as well. Anyway, thanks again for all the help and clarification. I like this new karma system. You are definitely getting one :)

Thanks again. I'll be sure to post more questions as they arise. Others, feel free to use this thread as a question asking thread as well.

On a related note, something i didn't know for a long time was that those influence bonus tiles DO work with the influence bonus that stock exchanges get. So build your stock exchanges on them, might not make a huge difference but it could help.

Don't forget: If you want to play a game that can be submitted to the Metaverse, make sure to start it using the [Metaverse] button ingame.
It has happened to me on several occasions that I am 1,5 hours into the game and suddenly realise "F*^$ I clocked New Game, didn't I..."

Found another thing I came across that wasnt clear involving improvements. The morale bonus tile appeared on a new planet. I scrolled through my list of things to build. Nothing seemed to fit that profile.

So, my question is, which buildings/structures boost morale points? I had my embassy which does influence. There was the entertainment centers which seem didnt seem to fit morale specifically. There wasnt anything that specifically indicated +XX morale points.

Anyway, thanks in advance for clarifying what structures work on morale bonus squares :)

Those buildings (entertainment centres) should work on them, even though it doesn't give a morale points but percentage bonus. I'll actually try it and come back.

Further question on 'custom made ships added to custom race'. I want to know if the game automatically places things like engines, life support, etc on the ship when its added to the custom list? Or do I have to do that? Because I dont always know which tech I'm going to be starting with, I dont want to add, say, impulse drive to my starting scout if I'm not starting with that tech anyway. Does the game automatically put those items to scale to your tech or no?

The real problem would come in later on say a huge hulled ship. If I put rail guns on it, but as I'm teching up, I tech missiles to full, that ship would be without guns unless I modify it in game. Maybe I'm making things more complicated then they need to be.

So far, I've made 2 colony ship designs and a huge hull design. One of the colony ships have a colony module on it. The other does not. If I add the one without a module, will the game automatically place that module? Or say I put my colony ship with a module into the constructor slot. Will the colony module be replaced with the constructor module or will it retain the colony module or do something entirely different.

Anyway, thats 3 ways of looking at the same issue I'm concerned about. I just wanted to run it by you smart, helpful people.

Thanks!

(I'd play around with it myself if I had more time right now. With finals next week, I only have time to write about it and dream about playing... sigh)

Entertainment centers are what you build on morale tiles. (approval = morale)

Morale and influence buildings don't work with points, they have a percentage increase over the points the planet themselves have.
That means that improvement tiles will actually affect these given percentages.
(A political capital built on a morale tile will give a 50*2= 100% morale bonus!)

Research and manufacturing tiles only increase points, not percentages, approval and influence tiles only improve percentages, not points. This seems contradictionary, but then you get used to it...

A quick shortlist:

Morale improvement tile, will it affect...
Political capital morale boos -> yes (but only the morale part of the bonus)
Trade good that gives morale boost -> no
Entertainment center -> yes
Farm -> no, don't be silly

Manufacturing tile, will it affect...
Manufacturing capital -> nope
Manufacturing center -> jawohl
Power plant -> no!
Research center -> gar nicht (that's a no)

Influence tile, will it affect...
Political capital -> yes (but only the influence part of the bonus)
Embassy -> aye
Stock Exchange -> YES (but only the influence part of the bonus)
Galactic influence boosting achievement -> nope!

Food tile,
Farms -> yes
Everything else -> no
