Should I upgrade civilian infrastructure on roids always?

Hi just seen a post where users tell a person to upgrade civ infrastructure on planets, heres the thing when I capture asteroids , I actually have 1 stage civ infrastructure to upgrade by roid and I do it almost immediatly, Is it the case that civ infrastructure on roids is every bit as relevant as on planets?

Also I have probably taken it to the extreme where planets are concerned, when I first take any planet after my capital I dont take any other planet until the current planet is maxed in civ infrastructure. The thing is Is it still profitable to just build civ infrastructure to the 2nd last level on planets? I think thats the stage where cost goes to 0.0 (Will still make some kind of money on that planet or does that just mean it will in total just break even?)

Yes, because it eliminates the credit income drain :)

The 0.0 means the planet isn't losing any due to underdevelopment. But since the planet's population will grow, it will still make some money. The higher your infrastructure, the more population the planet can support, and thus the higher the credit income out of it.

You should always upgrade civ. inf. as soon as possible on any planet, otherwise you are losing credits with nothing in return. If you upgrade all the way you will gain credits instead. Your economy is based on planet income (at least until you can get a good chain of trade ports together after teching up), so planets should have as much civ. inf. as possible to increase the population you can tax.

ON a planet with three levels available 2 levels will eliminate the credit drain. So you should absolutely get 2 immediately. The third is where it gets tricky.

2 levels gives you 0 tax penalty and a max population of 70 for the most part. So if the population is currently at 15, it will take a long time to get to 70.

Knowing this you can put upgrading that last upgrade on the back burner because upgrading between 15 and 70 will give you the same benefit at any time during that growth. Say if you need those resources to research a critical prototype now, or to build frig factories on your front world.

Hope this helps!

IIRC, lvl 1 on a 3&4 level planet also gives you 0 tax penalty after enough pop has settled. However, you should always upgrade all planets to 2 anyways and all asteroids to 1 as soon as possible.

watch the population of the planet if you are strapped for cash and want to hold off on lvl 3 & 4 upgrades to population cause there are better things to buy (like ships)

try to time the finish of the upgrade to population with the max out of the pop if possible and required.
