Technical question: What is the performance of the new textures?

Will i be able to play immense?

I thought to start an immense game, but was wondering if my PC may be too slow. I played gigantic in Dark Avatar and those tended to slow down to the end with wait times when windows needed to be closed etc. Is this improved in TA as well? The new textures use less memory - but does this matter if you are in tactical zoom, not displaying any of them actively? The new galaxy is much bigger than the old one - is the performance acceptable?

My system specs are
AMD Athlon XP 3200+
1,5gb Ram
Geforce 6600GT

Keep everything rare and see how it goes. If it performs well, you can try it with more stars/planets/civs.

I haven't tried a immense game but your computer should handle it I think. Stardock said they were optimising the game so it should handle immense maps, I had some stuttering in combats in DA but I think it is gone in TotA so clearly they fixed something. I should give it a try if I were you.

There is also a option "Force AI to use full CPU" that you can try out (Disable/Enable).

Don't forget to tell us how it worked out ;)

As said before i have tried gigantic and it worked. Maybe there is not yet someone who finished immense on similar hardware, so maybe i will just have to try and report here. Too bad if i discover in 1 month or so my game becomes unplayable. ^^

I played to an alliance victory with 2 other races on an immense map. I started with 9 races and 8 minors. I had plsnets on common habital on occasional star on abundant.

I play on a 2ghz dualcore laptop. Everything played great. Took a couple months to play.

The new textures use significantly less memory than the old ones, but you'll still want to have as much RAM available as windows will let the game have in order to play on Immense.

Yesterday i have exchanged 2x256 Meg of PC2700 Ram with 2x512meg pc3200, now having 4x512megs of pc3200 RAM, not slowed down anymore. I tested performance on Immense with cheats, enabled as much planets as possible, as much opponents as possible (masochistic) and used cheats to reveal the map. It took a few seconds but then performance was acceptable, only slight delays (maybe a half second) when i cycle through menus. How much performance drop will i have to await in the later game, if i start a normal one (fog of war on)? There will be a lot more ships later in the game - and of coruse a lot bulding queues. Do you think it will be playable? I do not want to start an immense game just to realise after 50hours of play it now finally has become unplayable before i am able to finish it...
