Crash when starting the game

Problems come after you click "Play Game"

Hi,

So after player for a few days, my game just won't start anymore. I click "Play the Game" and I hear one of those Window Error sounds in a black screen. I've tried repatching the game, but the problem still persists. I'm pretty sure that my computer specks are not part of the problem, but I'll provide it down below just incase.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+, 2.41 GHz
2.00 GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 7600 GS x2

If you alt-tab from the game when it crashes, do you see a message about a minidump? If so, go to the location it shows and send the file there to [email protected] and they'll be able to tell you if there's something you can do to fix it.

Alright, if it is writing a dump and you just can't see/access the popup about it, it should be placed in the following location:

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\Sins Dump

Vista: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\Sins Dump

Please note that some of these directories are hidden by default. To unhide them, go to Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View and set yourself to view hidden files and folders.

No dump files exist. I am viewing the folder right now.

I have tried reinstalling the game, and it works to a certain degree. After sometime, the computer will restart. It claims that the computer restarted due to an error causing a blue screen. No dump was written in the folder.

My computer runs other games and programs fine. I narrowed it down to this game causing the blue screen, after several trials.

I managed to take a small glimpse of the second window, and after sometime, the error window said something like 'C++ runime' or something along their. The window doesn't stay visible long enough for me to record everything down, but that is what the Title bar says.

Any insights on to this? The problem still persists, and has been for a while now. Is the game bricked for me?

What did the BSOD/windows error log say the problem was? Any sort of reboot/BSOD issue points towards a hardware or driver fault, rather than a game issue.

I could not find a log for the BSoD, but I did manage to find the error logs for after the game was updated. It read;

Faulting application sins of a solar empire.exe, version 1.0.4.0, faulting module miscr3.dll, version 7.0.0.125, fault address 0x0000b451.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

This Event Viewer showed a second error, four seconds following;

Fault bucket 740710580.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

EDIT: After a short while, I think I found the log for the BSoD. Not quite sure about it, but it did read version 1.01;

Faulting application sins of a solar empire.exe, version 1.0.0.1, faulting module sins of a solar empire.exe, version 1.0.0.1, fault address 0x0006c3cb.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

*bump*

The problem still persist, and I don't have a fix. I'm dumb when it comes to software problems.

miscr3.dll

Do you have Kaspersky AV? That seems to be one of its files, so you might try running the game with it disabled. I also saw some reports that there are viruses that use that name, if you don't have Kaspersky.

My crashes were not like that, but I had a somewhat similar experience. I was getting complete system lockups when I would try to login to IC online. I eventualy traced the problem to my Zone Alarm. What was happening was (same prob. with DoW) it was trying to pop up an allow/block event, but because of some bug, it would lock everything, forcing me to hard reset my pc. Always using game mode answer with allow, has since prevented this.
