Doctors are Not Gods

How many times have I written that on this site?  I really dont know, and in the end, it really does not matter.  Doctors make mistakes.  Doctors Don't know everything!  Doctors are not Gods!

But when the rubber hit the road, I was yelling "Why did not the doctors know!  They did all the tests!  What the hell were they thinking!  How could they be such fools!".

Yea, I was mad, angry, upset, pissed off, and down right outraged!  It took we a while to calm down and realize what I really was - was human.  And when it is your mother under the knife, rules go out the window.  What is logic, true, right, or just - does not matter.  I am not Dukakis.

But so far, even with my mother being on the table over twice as long, losing her whole left lung, not just a lobe, and having them repair a congenital heart defect that I did not know about (but they did before the surgery), she is doing ok.  Thank god for doctors.  Who are not doctors, but we dont think that way when it is our loved one under the knife.

She is still in CV-ICU, but doing well.  And I know she was hungry.  They told me this morning she was eating breakfast.  For her to eat Hospital food, she must have been starving!

Well, somethings have not changed with the new JU.  The edit button for the article is MIA.  The last line of the 4th paragraph should be "Who are not gods....".

Indeed, doctors are not gods...they can't create or reanimate life, but they try to preserve it.

Glad to hear things turned out okay. :)

And when they fail, we treat them like they should be. At least when it is our loved ones.

Thanks. I feel like Mason has run over me with his truck, backed up and done it a second time. Just stress.

Thanks Roy. I feel better, but still sore from the stress. She was up and walking late last night. I will call her soon.

Actually I corrected that in the first comment. JU would not let me edit it. And no Doctors are gods. They are merely human, and we have to remember that - just not always when it is our loved one on the table.

Going down soon. She is a lady that spent her whole career working on computers (from the early 60s on), but refuses to have one now!

That's my mom.

I missed this too and didn't realise Doc!  I am glad to hear the surgery went well and that she's able to eat is a good sign!  I hope things will continue to go well and you'll get to see her soon!

I just got back from seeing her. I am glad I did. she looked very good! She does not have a lot of stamina now, but that is getting better too. I talked to her yesterday and what was she complaining about? She could not concentrate on her Bridge playing because the bra was rubbing on her scar!

That's my mom! :)

Thanks Mason. I know you had your own mother to think about, as did I. And they pleasantly surprised us!

My Wife and I took her and my Aunt (and youngest brother) out to Dinner. My brother is a GM of a restaurant chain (a pretty good one), so we were treated very well, and had a great time! ONe of those happy release long type dinners. Saw some Dolphins while eating too! (no Manatees). We were north of you in Vero Beach.
