Why playing online sucks

Well, let's be frank about online.

Here's the problem.

Games are to long: Well... This isn't a problem but the games general design and the way it's played out. But because games last so long, like 3-6 hours i find, i myself seem to have to leave... or someone else does. Which completely destroys the fun!!

Crashing: Wow... if i crash because of mini dump one more time especially when i'm about to win i'm going to cry.
Crashing is a huge problem, especially when games are hours long sometimes! God thats annoying.

Pirates: Ya pirates are SOOO annoying, most host leave them on and no one ever seems to complain but me. I hate it, you always lose like a teamate or one player right off the bat. Because he's forced to build a army instead of producing his economy and gaining planets, So as soon as he kills them pirates he then has to prepare to fend off another!!! yay!

No fighting: I've been in games where there's been no fighting because the people get to the point where there planets are so re-inforced and protected that they easily can win when defending, but if they attack they lose and vice versa. This creates a standoff of nothing happening which turns the TEC and Advent in using those dam cannons which you cant get to because of the reasons above.

Allie sucking/Leaving: Ever get in a game and your ally sucks so much he leaves or gets killed in 5 minutes. Well thats never the dam case. He always sucks and dies about a hour in, you then realise "Holy crap i just wasted a hour of my life and now im boned!".

Capital Ship dying: Ever get in a game where your buddy or the ennemie sends their capital ship in and it dies right away and they leave, hell ya. Then guess what, they leave..... always!

Stats mean nothing: Stats are stupid, they aren't but they are. I have about 15 ames played and all loses because my freaken ally leaves or i have to go take a huge dump or some crap and i'm forced to leave. Anyways i've had the problem of thinking i'm paired with some brilliant guy who's got 54 wins and 10 loses. I've now come to notice stats mean nothing and chances are he got those wins for being the person who didnt have to take a huge dump or leave during the game. Hell it's true i'm sure most victories are won by people leaving.

Anyways you guys are free to talk about how you feel about online and stuff.
I feel that SOASE is a totally different game online and not in the good way. Sorry i don't have a 3-6 hours to sit around to play one game. By one game i mean one freaken round type of deal, Feels like such a non-accomplishment when you lose or have to leave, kinda like... dam 3 hours doing that and i got nothing done.

MINI-DUMPS are the main issue. State that it will be a long game. pirates can be turned off. TEC has the only good SW. and i mainly just want the mini-dump fixed (maybe a fastest option but mini-dump first) yes i know it is a bug causing the mini-dump but fix that

It sounds like massive dumps are the main issue for Feweh.

Couldn't you just pause the game by pressing Pause/break on your keyboard? That would give you time to use the restroom.

I'm not a fan of big rants, but allow me to pick out one bit that just, well, made me smile.
Stats are stupid, they aren't but they are.

OMG this time intensive strategy game takes a long time to play against another player?

BREAKING NEWS!!

What if the host could set a pre-determined, 5min in-game pause ever 90 min? Even better: a pause window with 5min count-down pops up every 90min, and when each player clicks their over-ride button the play continues. I'd rather wait for someone to go crap/let the dog out/ grab another soda than have them quit!

How about just hitting the pause button after saying "Hey I need to get a drink"

What, yous guys don't wear diapers when you play online? I guess some people just want to win more than others......

If you've played any other multiplayer game, you'll find the same sort of issues wherever you are. There will always be cowards, jerks, idiots, ego and incontinence. It's not specific to this game.

Here's what I'm curious about. Your entire argument seems to focus more on the fact that you hate the game for not letting you take a dump than for anything else. In fact, it seems worded that you see the entire scoring system being flawed because people will always need to take a dump. While I applaud your recognition of your sanitation, I have no idea how to retort against something as ridiculous as this.

...

Then you also hate on the game because it takes a long time to do anything. But you knew going in, and you've played the game so many times, that it takes a long time and it's not a sit-down-for-5-minutes game. Everywhere, you see information telling you the game takes ages to complete. The huge tech tree, the long research times, the slow unit speed. Why would you attribute an argument intended for speed games for this title? There's a name for people who don't learn. It's called ignorance.

There's also a very, very, very fast way to solve all your problems. Stop playing random games. Play with friends, or join a clan.

FYI if you simply click quit instead of surrender, your opponents will receive a win, but you will not receive a loss.. so if you REALLY need to leave and dont believe you actually LOST... just, well, quit...

this is also why stats need to be taken with a grain of salt... if someone has 150 games with 50 wins 0 losses... hmmmmm. They are probably quitting instead of surrendering :p

That said, due to the large number of crashes and dropped games, it is not unreasonable to have twice as many total games played as your wins + losses, yet still surrender/win most your games.

Built-in potty breaks. Not such a bad idea, actually.

So you complain that people leaving ruins the game, yet you do it.

I hope I never meet you online.

Im not getting involved in arguments but duhman02 your summing up made me laugh there lol

For about leaving players here the reason to play FFA.
Most of random players always quits or disconnects fast enough.
Only two three real can play to the end.

And the thing which is strange that ai players do better than disconnected and mess up all game by its threat )

I haven't played online yet. I'm guessing there's a way to pause it so you can do your bidness?

Where did « they » say that ?!

I remember reading posts by Ironclad representatives where they stated that some mini-dump causes would not be fixed before the upcoming 1.10 (beyond 1.04).

Those representatives also reminded us that « mini-dumps » are not causal problems : they are the technical log of problems -- secondary effects, not primary causes.

You will always get mini-dumps : they log info about a bug or a non-bug related crash.

The problem I have is not just the lengthy time investment into a game, but how easily it can become worthless. Like when you're playing a big game, and 2 hours into it half of your team drops. If the other team has any idea how to play the game, you basically have no hope of winning, so you just wasted 2 hours of your life. Another troublesome problem is that there's a pretty clear point where the game is "over" but the opposing team will do anything they can to stall you just to drag it out and make it painful because its so easy to run away from a fight and play cat and mouse for hours.

Huge tech tree?! This game has about the most miniscule tech tree I've ever seen in any game that even bothers to put one in. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just... there it is. I went there.

Well, as for the stats not meaning anything... thats why I went ahead and paid for a professional ladder system at www.sinsladder.com Stats mean something there if you're competitive :P
