Ground Combat Question

Just Die Already!

My current game is in the latest TA beta (.98c[b].001).

When invading planets, I bring 21 billion (thats 21000m) troops to the battlefield. I am using a custom race based on the Terran tech tree. I have researched all techs for soldering ability. (72 advantage, 99000+ tech rating)

When I attack, I quickly overwhelm them and bring thier numbers down to 1. At that point that last solder manages to kill between 1500 ~ 3000 million of my army. While I think it is good to simulate that last ditch effort to save your world, these numbers are a bit out there don't you think?

The race I'm invading is a custom based on the Torian tech tree, and has a lower soldering ability. (55 advantage, 55000+ tech rating) The race has only population and moral bonuses chosen and is a Super Breeder.

The battle usually has me with at least 10 more points to my advantage on the dice roll before attack, though it doesn't seem to matter. I disable the odd planatery defence before invading, though that does not seem to matter either.

Anyone have any ideas what is going on here?

I've never actually sat and watched the combat see itself through to have noticed that.

BTW 2100 billion is 2.1 trillion. None-the-less, 2100 billion troops is horrid overkill seeing that a planet only have a base of 6 billion people.

There are some odd number exchanges when populating a troop ship. 3 billion people taken from a planet only turn into 3 thousand troops on a ship. The remainder are 'support personnel' I guess.

It's 3000 legions of troops, not 3000 troops.

Sorry about that, I do indeed have 21,000 million troops. Just a typo. If you are going to be doing a lot of invading, it makes since to bring a vastly larger army. This means you will likely have a higher percentage remaining after the battle than otherwise. Fewer losses means you don't have to replenish as quickly. I have 4 of these troop fleets flying around their space taking whatever I choose. And their capitol has 16,000 million people, which is 16 billion.

At any rate, the question is why does that 1 legion of troops do so much damage?

Who is to say that that 1 legion of troops arent the superheroes who killed the rest of your soldiers as well ? The supporting legions are just cannonfodder, there to die for that 1 legion of supertroops.

Or perhaps their last ditch attempt involves using horrible nuclear type suicidal weapons. Everything is lost boys..shoot the nukes/bioweapons..we're all dead anyway.

...That or just a byproduct of trying to get a graphical representation of the battle commencing and mis-guessing the speed at which the deaths should of occurred. Kind of akin to seeing a ship in combat not reaching fully red highlighted and it exploding.

The real answer may be closer to something akin to the last 1% of the windows status bar taking 95% of the time. :)

Oh Oh...how about your troops don't have automatic weapons? They fired off that first huge volley and were reloading while the last legion of automatic guns finished off the people reloading? Ever notice a civil/revolutionary war battle reenacted in a movie?

No, I sprung for the automatic guns. They even have ammo. I'd sure like to see an after action report on what that last legion used to kill so many.

They had the "Logistics Bug" on their side. After each legion vs legion fight, they won and came out with full hp.
