Severian
Karellen
Yagharek
Mothkin
Eatbugs (The best cat name in recorded history)
the On/Off Star

Duke the Werewolf and Earl the Vampire
the Pelbar, Sentani and Shumai tribes
Reid Malenfant

Sadly, that's about all I can think of at the moment...

Polgara: Eddings' Belgariad/Malloreon series' (Can't recall if she appeared in other books or not)

Compson's World: don't know.

Andelain: Donaldson's Covenant series.

Morn Hyland: Donaldson again, from the Gap series (I think that's what it was called).

How about Dr. Alkad Mzu?

How about:
1. Olhado
2. Bean
3. Wang-mu
End of quote

Bean is from the Orson Scott Card series with Ender Wiggins. The first is called Ender's Game I seem to recall.

Ahhhh, yes, Slippery Jim: The Stainless Steel Rat.

Hope Hubris: Piers Anthony's Bio of a Space Tyrant (man, I haven't read those since they were first published. That's a looooooong time ago!)

I should know Kinnison, but can't for the life of me dredge that one up. No idea on Cletus.

I second that.

I've a few more to add, as well:

Lucinda Carlyle
the ship 'Argonos'
the Omega Clouds (too easy, maybe...)

Mot

I'd also point out that this was the Bolian barber on board the NCC-1701-D for the first few seasons of TNG, but since that isn't a book I suppose I shouldn't mention it :P

Unto Leviathan. Frightening book, that (well, it was for me, anyway :P )

Kim (Kimball) Kinnison is from E.E. "Doc" Smith's Lensman Series. Specifically Galactic Patrol, Grey Lensman, Second Stage Lensman, and Children of the Lens. Also mentioned in Masters of the Vortex aka Vortex Blasters. Kim was not in Triplanetary and First Lensman.

Edward E. Smith, Ph.D.

Excellent books, along with the Skylark Series (only 4 books). I have the omnibus editions of both series.

Dan Simmons, was it Hyperion? I liked the Ilium/Olympos pair better; nicest use of historical figures I've caught in a while.
Hyperion's a classic, The shrike is a superbly eerie creation.

I've got some:

Carlos Montero, Leslie Gillis and Wendy Gunther
William Mandella
Hiro Protagonist
Bellis Coldwine
Ian Cormac
Takeshi Kovacs

Oh and Case is from Neuromancer, Reid Malenfant is a Stephen Baxter character... Origin Space?

My nickname.

I'll drop in later to see if anyone figured it out, it's probably a though one with only one clue.

Hmm, let's see...

Jaqen H'ghar
Pierre Aronnax

Aiken Drum - The Many Colored Land (plus follow-ons) by Julian May. These are excellent by the way.

Polgara - David Edding's several series and stand alone books, starting with The Belgariad.

Fflewddur Fflam - Chronicles of Prydain

- Kirk Simmons

Ivan Vorpatril: funny you posted that. I was just going to throw in a character from Lois McMaster Bujold's books as well.

*edit* Manii: That particular series by Julian May is in my list of all-time favorites. Some really great characters in there, and a pretty cool story as well.

Argonos is also the name of the ship in Richard Paul Russo's Ship of Fools.
Who wrote Unto Leviathan, and what was it about?

Linden Avery reminds me of The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever by Stephen R. Donaldson. I think she was a character in the latter books of the series.

right!

Oh, and to save everyone some Googling time, Montauge is from Farenhiet 451 (I think that's the right number), and Jake's from Turtledove's American Empire series

Hiro Protagonist - Snow Crash - Neil Stephenson
Takeshi Kovacs - Altered Carbon - Richard Morgan
Pierre Aronnax - 20,000 Leagues, etc. - Jules Verne

How bout those ladies?
- Lady Sharrow
- Lenie Clarke
- Leisha Camden
- Sarah Kerrigan

They're actually the same book; I should have remembered that here in Australia (and I think in the UK, but not sure) it's called Unto Leviathan, and in the US it's Ship of Fools. Or something like that...

Surely you don't mean the one from Starcraft?
