One for yrag.....

My old scanner died...so I got myself a new one....CanoScan LiDE 600F

Fun thing is the CD doesn't autorun to show the setup/install menus....

Not on this box...or on my Lappy....but it does on my wife's machine.

There's no autorun.inf ....and the files there are all appear to be for a Mac.....and not apparently executable.

I dl'd the driver and toolbox...but I still need the OCR and editing stuff ...but can't get the disc to 'do anything'....short of throwing it frisby-style....;)

Closest I get is an auto folder-view in Explorer...but whatever 'loader' there is....isn't....;)

Any thoughts?

Look for the file labeled setup.exe on the CD. Click it.

I think Jafo already stated....

Jafo... I had a similar experience with a HP 3-in-One once... it should have come with an installation disc for both Windows & Mac, but only came with the Mac disc. I just returned to the point of purchase and they kindly provided me with the Windows disc. ;)

OK, guys....everyone is attributing slightly less intelligence to me than is quite fair....;)

Kona....there IS no 'setup.exe' or any other apparent executable of any form, anywhere on the disk....;)

Starkers....it IS a combined Mac/PC disk....and it works as a PC disk...on my wife's machine...[a PC] but not on mine [aPC]....;)

Pas....needless to say I got the downloads....

I dl'd the driver and toolbox

...but 2 things are the issue....getting the extra software off the disk....and simply knowing how/why it's not working for me on mine...;)

...say it ain't so..... ;p

So as not to be party to this degradation of your intellect, I'll assume the USB is not plugged in and AutoPlay tab is checked in CD properties (if it's either one of those...you're fired).

Using your machine, burn it to another CD. Run the burn job.

Nope...still not that silly...;)

Wasn't connected before install attempt....and I learned lots about autoplay and autorun V2 till 2.30 am ....and it's none of that.

The issue is that my machine is reading the disk as a Mac install...not a PC one.

Terry's machine sees the disk as it should be....autorun.inf and all.

I copied what hers saw to a USB stick...and installed on mine from there....rough and ready work-around...;)

Latest theory is my messing around with a Mac drive emulator has convinced my 'autoplay' that a Mac/PC install disk is only a Mac one...so I'll cull the proggy and check...;)

I hope that theory is correct and there is not something else a-miss. But all in all good to hear it is solved thus far Paul.

Tomorrow is another day and better things are always on the way!

....you got a long, fuckin' way to go, Matey...... ;)

Burning the CD on your machine would have burned it as a 'PC' CD....theoretically.

On your machine............ :NOTSURE:

OK, so Canon does it differently...HP must be a little more generous with their discs, being they issue both...well in most cases, just not mine. ;)
