Is Starting Position ever going to be addressed?

This is keeping me from playing the game.

For some reason I have thought that in one of these patches the developers would have released a solution to the problem of not being able to start near your allies within the same star, or even in the same star!

In my cooperative games, where I like them to be epic with a close friend... we always start in different star systems, which completely destroys the point of playing cooperatively. When you're playing the first 5+ or even more hours alone without any actual contact with your friend, it's pretty much just like playing singleplayer, and is no fun.

I want the option to choose to start near my teammates, either in the same star system, or in the same star system as well as relatively adjacent.

Is this ever going to be addressed in a patch, or do I have to keep this game shelved?

Object all you want, but this is something that is very important for my enjoyment of the game, since I'm not big on versus matches where it doesn't matter where I start.

I concur.
Team mates should always start adjacent to each other when teams are locked.

It's even worse in competitive team games. Most of which have at least one 'odd man out' who is stomped right off the bat since he is positioned directly between two enemy homewords. On non-random maps like foreign invasion, twin empires etc it usually ruins the entire map to have teams broken up. The last time I played twin empires it paired one enemy and one ally on each planet set making it basically four 1v1 games akin to playing four simulatanous 'point blank' scenarios.

On multi star maps it is just as bad, usually ending up with retarded starts like 3 allies vs 1 enemy in one system and 3 enemy vs 1 ally in the other system. I've practically stopped playing the game due to the placement scripting.

If you want u can make your own maps and give the start positions the same teamindex values for instance 1 for team 1 and 2 for team 2, There are a couple of default maps that do this but not many. The multi star maps on random are even worse because all of the start positions are in 2 stars. Basically what your asking for is for them to make a few more maps:)

I agree that it would be better to be able to specifically set your start location before the game. The map option is there, but it is a lot more effort :-)
Lets hope one of the devs realizes and does something about it!

It's already in the works. Just might not get here till 1.1. Brad asked us to submit how we want teaming handled a few weeks back when we were playing with him.

Glad to hear it. As others have stated it is super annoying. Makes multisystem team games pointless.

1.1? Good lord... that's going to take well over a year, unless I'm completely naive about the speed future updates will be released.

I'm getting no further enjoyment out of this game until I can actually experience true cooperative play in a large scale system with my close buddies who can invest a lot of time like I can.

Why?

1.04 is going to be out in a week, then they go to work on 1.1 -- I'd expect a few months delay, yes, but hardly a year!

The original expectation was that 1.1 would come out by the end of April (from a Stardock employee I spoke to on IRC)... This was not a hard deadline of course, so give a couple of extra weeks to that estimate and you will probably be close.

Well, I guess if they're going straight from 1.04 to 1.1 then it won't be so bad. I wasn't aware that was the plan.

I seriously doubt it :)

Past experience with the GC series makes me confident in saying you will probably be pleasantly surprised. And if there is a wait time, it'll be worthwhile... patches came quickly enough I found it difficult to finish games sometimes.

I vote for this option!

Its a pain in the ass to restart Twin Empires 10 times to get positions right, otherwise that kind-o-map is more than unbalanced.

If there's a particular map you want the start locations fixed for, ask me in a PM or I can make a post, I've already done it for all the maps that don't have it.

Definitely a nice option, since like everyone else says, it makes large scale teamed fights a pain to get organized.

On a side note, anyone know why they're skipping .05 -1.0 designations and going straight to 1.1 for the next patch?

Probably because 1.1 is considered to be more of a major update than just a "patch".

Yeah played a few games where 1 dude got placed next to the other 2-3 guys and get gang banged right away.

AFAIK in the 1.1 changelog there is no mention of starting position fixes or options to have "fixed" or "random" starting locations.

:(

The pitiful thing is it takes 10 seconds to fix Twin Empires in Galaxy Forge , but ironically because there is no auto-map download feature ,its impossible to host the fixed version of Twin empires unless everyone has manually downloaded it from me.

WTF is up with this anyway? Is there some reason for this?

Looking at MOST of the "2v2" or "3v3" maps, they are CLEARLY designed for each team to be together in certain areas because they are mirrored maps with designated choke points.

These maps are basically broken if your start placement is random. What is going on with this issue?

We have to resort to creating our own maps because teamplay is thrown out of the window, since no a single team spawns close to each other.

Quite annoying.

Ok a map like Foreign invasion is meant to be a "high tempo map" . Do you help your stranded ally or do you try to kill their stranded player faster then they can kill your stranded player. Its actually a very good dynamic. Leave this map alone.

However ...Twin Empires , fix it for Left vs Right play please.
