Back In The Shop Again

The other day while checking the oil in my trucck's generator unit I saw that the bolts holding on it's radiator had broken and the radiator was just laying loose. I was amazed that it hadn't completely broken free and fallen off.

The generator supplies me with heat, air, and 110v electricity while the truck is shut off. It saves a lot of fuel compared to letting the truck run all night and is a nice thing to have. When I got back to the yard I put the truck into the shop hoping that it would just be a quick fix and I could be on my way. No such luck.

They worked on it all afternoon and concluded that they would just have to install a new unit, I checked into the hotel as there was no way they would finish it until today. That really throws a wrench into my trip plans as I was supposed to go down to IL this morning and pick up a Bomag roller to fill out my load and start rolling West.

The original plan was for me to deliver in Denver, CO Elko, NV and Bakersfield, CA by Friday. Now if I am still running that load the schedule is going to be thrown out to Monday before getting empty. That really stinks and puts me in CA over the weekend which doesn't thrill me at all.

As much as the load pays I was willing to run it even though I hate going into CA, but now I am kind of hoping they'll put it on someone else who can get rolling right away this morning. Probably won't happen though.

I did have a good time at Applebee's last night. The newest bartender, a rugby player named Josh, had told me the last time I was in that I had inspired him to try and learn knitting. I just thought he was blowing smoke at the time but last night he told me that he had purchased some yarn, needles, and a book and with his mother's help had started learning. I thought that was pretty cool.

A couple of the servers there also knit and kept coming over to check out the alpaca vest I am working on and to ask about various knitting techniques. One told me she wanted to learn to knit in the round to make hats and sweaters and such but didn't know how so I spent a couple of minutes showing her how it's done. She'd never seen circular needles before and was fascinated by them.

It was fun and I told them all that I might have to start charging them for the knitting lessons LOL.

Bakersfield is not that bad. At least it is not the coast!

Since they are replacing the generator, maybe that problem will go away. Crossed fingers for that one!

So how much do you charge for your knitting classes? ;)

Sorry to hear about the generator. :(

Sounds like an side business to help offset your diesel costs?

I hope you get back on the road soon Mason, but in the meantime hopefully you get to relax a bit and rest up for the coming deluge of work.

 I have no idea what to charge but I suppose some free beer and food would work.

I really don't like any part of Cali. This state is just too regulatory for my taste. A regular police state out here and they really really don't like trucks.
