Halo MOD?

Ok so I am just throwing this idea out there because I am a Halo fanatic and I think that this game could easily incorporate the Halo universe into it. I am not a very good designer but I can provide support and more ideas. There are already two races that could easily be changed into the Humans and the Covenant( TEC and Advent). All we would have to do would be to change ships some and add  gauss guns to most TEC Cap ships. I know this might take a long time but if it means that we will finally have a Halo space combat game then it will be well worth it.

It can. Well this game is really a perfect game for a halo mod. If you read the halo stories and this story kinda sounds the same.

Although this is genius (I am also a Halo fanatic, read all the books and I have a knowledge base in Halo as well.) there are a lot of people who are still working on other mods for this game already (graphic enhancements, TC (total conversion) mods, etc) and not to mention, if you've seen sketches of the rendered Halo universe ships, they're many times more complex in both shape and design. Also, we've never seen what their shipyards look like... but we have seen the super-MAC platforms, hee hee.

In order to keep this possibility alive, keep this in the back of your heads. Recruit some designers and sketchers because I believe with the Halo universe and this game, it's going to end up much like a TC mod.

Agreed. I posted here beofre but my post never apeared for some odd reason. Anyway, I would help in any way i could. I am currently learning hhow ot modle in gmax but i cant help much in that regard. i do know halo quite well and have read all of the books and lpayed all of the games. though i dont have much free time i can contact a few friends who are expierienced modders and modelers. (mostly on halo ce and freelancer though)

This is a great idea, and being a small fanatic I am [Because Im a nerd!] I've read all of those little novels, as given in the novels, there is a rebel group that is apart from the UNSC, and the group uses modified ships and old outdated ships from past UNSC models.

-As for the boarding parties, that may not work so well, it kind of reminds me of Sid Meiers Pirates!

Im currently working on a species diversification mod which does change it around a little to be like halo (at least in the sense that your a lot closer to halo after my mod then before it) so once i finish up TEC and Advent forces ill put it up for beta and you can use it from there. Two new gauss cannon abilities have been added, shields have been removed from tec ships, burn effects will be added to plasma weapons etc.

Just so ya all know you wont have to start entirely from scratch.

This game can EASILY be incorporated into a Halo RTS Space Combat game. Not to mention the Advent and TEC are already close enough to Covenant and Humans in ship design and weapons.
Actually, now that I think about it, the plotline is also very similar as well. (Not with Advent, but with Vasari and TEC. Aliens invade Earth, Earth getting its ass kicked for awhile, Earth making a comback, etc.)

I have been trying to get some models ingame but model importing is a lot harder than I thought. If you do want to get some models, go to google 3D warehouse and then just export to XSI with sketchup.

You know, I'm wondering when there will be a Star Wars or Star Trek Mod. I know they already have games like Sins for their respective series, but I mean, who wouldn't want their TEC capital ship to be the freaking enterprise? Hell, a awesome game would be Star Trek vs Star Wars.

There are already several projects trying to do that, just search a wee bit before ou post. Once those come out though I will definately merge them. And then eventually I will merge that with the Halo mod...if one ever comes out or if I get my modeling issues sorted out.

It would be a great idea, and as a huge halo fiction freak, it would translate well.
Here is some ideas. Human superweapon could either be planetary MAC cannon(better than orbital MAC cannons) or someway to implement the NOVA bomb into the game, which would take out everything in the gravity well. There would be plenty of flagships for each race. Such as covie supercarriers and assualt carriers and UNSC flagships, even special hero ships like Pillar of Autumn, which was a smaller ship, but had special technology on it and could take a beating(honeycombed infastructure and overlayed fusion reactors). Support ships could be the refitting ships like the UNSC Cradle and for covenant, the Infinite Succor(among many others). You could have a field day with planets ala something like Sins Plus. Just some examples, Harvest could support many trade stations and have a trade bonus. Reach could hold many more tactical slots than an average planet. Pegasi Delta could hold more logistic slots than normal(covie industrial world that was destroyed in the prologue of GoO) Human starting planet would be Earth(duh) and covenant would be High Charity. Instead of pirates, you would have rebels that live on the asteroids like Colonel Watts rebel force living in the asteroid.

This is all a small example of things that could be easily implemented, and that was just off of the top of my head.

It's a good idea, and most of Halo's space combat would translate pretty easily into the game, but I think it would be pretty hard to get a project like this off the ground. I think we'll probably see one million USS Enterprise downloads before we get a single In Amber Clad :(

Halo mod? Great idea... and while this might seem a little like hijacking the thread... why not a mod based off a universe that uses space combat all the time, that isn't the same old Star Trek Star Wars mods. Something that we can easily know what all the ships look like. Anyone know a thing like that?

If you havn't gotten the hint yet, why not a BSG mod!?

Well, if we're talking about theoretical units...

I don't know if it's actually possible to add a race into this game yet, so I'm assuming the mod would just be using the TEC and replacing their units with UNSC units. So I guess the obvious replacements would be

Gauss Defense Platform = Orbital Defense Platform. Pretty obvious. They pretty much fulfill the same purpose. The ODP's might have to be toned down a bit from canon though, just for gameplay purposes. One-shotting a capital ship every 30 seconds probably isn't fun for the other player.

Arcova Scout Frigate = Prowler. Again, same basic purpose. I don't believe we've ever seen one yet, but I don't think they'd be that hard to do. I've always kind of imagined them looking akin to modern day stealth aircraft, just much larger. I don't know if any of you have ever played Civilization IV before, but in the beyond the sword expansion, there's a space scenario, and the "stealth ship" unit from that looks pretty spot-on for how a Prowler would look. Maybe you could give it a researchable ability to disappear off sensors for a few seconds or something to give it the "stealth" capabilities.

Cobalt Light Frigate = Corvette. This would be the hardest model I think, we haven't seen them or even had a decent description to my knowledge, so it'd mostly be left up to the creator's imagination I suppose. Their general purpose seems to match up though. Small, cheap, easy to mass produce ship.

Javelis LRM Frigate = Frigate. This would be the easiest model to do, by far. We've seen more of this ship than of any of the others combined. I think the mission profile's would match up too. In Amber Clad and Forward Unto Dawn were both designated as "FFG", which is what the current US Navy uses for "Guided Missile Frigate", so apparently the Archer missile pods were the "main" weapons, not the MAC. So I think it would be a good, canon replacement for the Javelis' "distance" role.

Kodiak Heavy Cruiser = Destroyer. Something else that would need to be done entirely from imagination unfortunately. But I think the purpose of the two ships match up pretty well.

Kol Battleship = Marathon Cruiser. We've seen enough of it to make a model pretty easy. And they both have the role of "biggest and baddest ship in space".

Dunov or Akkan Battlecruiser = Halcyon Cruiser. I don't think it would really matter which of the two it replaced, it'd be a good match for either IMO.

Marza Dreadnought = Spirit of Fire-type. The Marza seems to be the "planetary assault ship", and thats mostly what Spirit of Fire is for. Maybe you could give it a special ability where instead of just nuking the planet, you'll see it send dropships down to the planet's surface every so often, until the planet's population is dropped to 0 and you instantly gain the planet, instead of needing to nuke it until the pop and health are both 0 and then re-colonize it.

Sova carrier = Carrier. Pretty obvious. As for how it would look, you might base it off a battlestar from the new Galactica series, given the similar mission roles and technology levels between the two.
