Who the f#$k cares?

How many people came to this expecting it to be some sort of rant about something? C’mon now, be honest. A provocative title like this would normally forecast a venomous diatribe about something or someone. The reality is this is just an update blog for anyone who might want to read it, hence the title.

I’m just about to have 5 days off in a row for Easter. I’m lucky to be working in a system where I get one extra day off per month to take when I like. I chose to take it tomorrow and extend my Easter break by one day. We’re having a bit of a get-together on Friday evening with a few friends. Nothing big or fancy or for any particular reason. For the most part, our friends are agnostics so the day has very little religious significance for us. Any excuse for a party, though. Well, actually, thinking about it, the party is for a reason. Toni and I are about to do something we’ve talked about doing for ages but kept putting off. The party is an excuse for one last blast before we move onto a more healthy lifestyle model (damn, I sound like a fitness show host). We’re both getting to the age where we realise our health is more important. I guess it is also because we both realise we want to spend what is left of our lives together. So staying healthy is really important.

My job is really shitting me at the moment. My manager, who has never been really good with people, seems to be getting worse as days go by. I’ve never been one to slack off at work but I have to say her attitude doesn’t inspire productivity. There is a distinct lack of management skills there and I’m not getting any from anywhere else either. I’m pretty much left to my own devices. While a lot of you might think this is an ideal situation to be in, I personally can’t stand it. While I don’t like someone constantly looking over my shoulder or checking up on me, it is always good to have good management. I think there are some big changes afoot but being a mere pleb, I’m not privy to any inside information. So it is a case of wait and see for me.

The band, on the other hand, is doing very well. Since my last update, we’ve written a slew of great new songs. We’ve also finally found a great female vocalist who has fit right in with the rest of the band. Her name is Pilly and she is originally from South Africa. She has been living in Australia since she was a young teenager and is a lovely, warm lady with an incredible voice. Stylistically, we’re starting to define our sound more. I think when we first started out, we really had no idea of the direction we wanted our music to take. This is mainly due to the diversity of our tastes and influences. This has now become more apparent, with a lot of our new material taking on reggae, ska and dub elements and combining these with overtones from hip hop. I have to say I could play this type of music all day and not get tired. We’re progressing on getting material ready to record with August likely to be when we go into the studio. The list of songs to record keeps going and if we keep it up, we’ll be recording enough material for two albums. Better too much than not enough, I say.

I will be getting some more ink done this coming Saturday, with the final star of my design being added. Then we are going to start on the background for the sleeve. I’m so loving my new ink. I will put up photos again once it is done and looking good. I’ve started working on design ideas for my other arm as well. I want to incorporate the tattoo I have there (a tribal-esque gecko) with a jungle themed background. I want to incorporate a few more lizards, a couple of frogs and a few Phasmids (stick insects) as well.

I just finished reading J. Michael Straczynski’s wonderful ‘Rising Stars’ graphic novel series. This is similar in some respects to ‘Heroes’ but very different also. If you’re a fan of Straczynski though, you will treasure this series. He is such a inventive writer who layers many ideas into his stories. Now I’m looking for another good series. If anyone has any suggestions, I’d really appreciate them.

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter break and that the bunny brings you all lots of chocolatey goodness.

Great up date Maso.

Healthy life style changes....sounds great.  It is difficult for me to get motivated to change a particular eating or exercise regime when its dreary outside.  But you don't have that problem do ya? hahaha.

Sounds like everything is running along well, except for the job.  Maybe you'll get a new manager.  You can always hope.:)

Thanks for the update.  Enjoyed it.

Happy Easter.

Just this morning it occured to me that I haven't inquired lately how the band was doing. So...how's the band doing?  :p  But seriously, thanks for the update! I suppose I need to sit down and do one 'cept there isn't just a whole lot to update. And, I don't think there would be many who the f#$k would care, lol.  ;p

Anyway, happy Easter break Maso! I hope it's a good one.

Would you like to be part of our test audience?  Send a blank cheque to...

Seriously, we have a few demo versions of the tracks.  I will tidy them up, convert them to MP3s and send you them, if you like.

As for the new ink, I'll get some pics up as soon as I can.

Kelly,

I always enjoy hearing how my friends are doing.

Well, this was kind of inspired by your New from the Northwest post, so thank you too. :)  We're both looking forward to getting ourselves healthy.  Hope you and yours have a relaxing time at your property.

Mason,

Good luck with the ink, look forward to seeing it.

Thanks mate.  Sorry to read about your truck troubles.  I hope you have got them sorted and you're on your way soon.

Tova,

It is difficult for me to get motivated to change a particular eating or exercise regime when its dreary outside.

Motivation is the main problem with me too, to be honest.  I could make excuses about not having enough time or whatever, but the reality is lack of motivation.  But there are a few folk here and in my 'real' life who are making changes and coping.  I find this very motivating.

There is a saying I heard somewhere that says you can have a great love life, a great family life and a great work life but you can't have all three at once.  Something is always sacrificed for the other two.  I would much rather have a lousy work life (I can cope with stress and put up with my boss) than anything else.  But you're right, I can always hope for a new manager.

Roy,

I need to sit down and do one 'cept there isn't just a whole lot to update

Okay, here are a few questions to get you started.  How are your boys doing?  How is the eldest going at college?  Have you any plans for the Easter break or are you working?

how's the band doing?

Great mate, thanks for asking. :)

I don't think there would be many who the f#$k would care

Seriously, I think you'd be surprised at how many DO care, mate.  You're a great bloke, so why wouldn't we care.

Thanks to you all for saying you care.  Hope everyone has a great break.

I must have missed seeing your new ink when you shared it. :P

Sorry to hear that work has been dragging for you lately...but hooray for your Easter break (I myself will be off for Easter and Spring break as of tomorrow...a nice 10 days away from work)!

I am glad your new vocalist is fitting in so well...you sound so excited about your new music...I'm excited for ya...it would be cool to listen to some of it soon. ;) Best of luck to you and Toni on your lifestyle changes...I'm sure it won't be easy, but I am sure you will both do great. :)

Rose,

I've had a couple of posts recently with links to a few shots of my new ink.  Check 'em out...

Ah, work, schmerk...  I really try not to let it bother me too much.  When I wrote this post yesterday, I was feeling a little down about it all but today is better.  I really can't be bothered wasting my energy on people who really are insignificant to my life.  But thanks for your kind words anyway.

As for the band, well I'm hoping to have a couple of the songs done by the end of this break.  I would be happy to forward you and Chris the MP3s to see what you guys think of them.  Let me know if you're interested.

Happy Easter to you both...

I'd love to hear how the sound has evolved since the last few tracks I heard. :D

Healthy Life style? Next you will be telling us you are on Geritol! ;)

Have a great time off! Easter is the sign of spring up this end of the world, but I guess for you it is the end of summer. Enjoy the last blast.

Sancho,

I will send you a selection when I have them ready.  Have a great Easter in Spain, mate.

Doc,

I don't need no steekin' vitamins... :)  Besides it will only double up on those I already take.

We've been having some really great weather of late but of course, what happens when we have some time off?  Well, it has cooled right down, there is rain about and it is windy as well.  So it looks as though Autumn has moved in, dammit all.  I would have liked it to stay fine and warm for at least another couple of weeks but never mind.

Have a great Easter yourself.

I would love that, mate.

Enough songs to record two albums? So cool you must be on a writing rush. It must be contagious. I had a writing rush for me. I wrote 2 articles in one week. I know it doesn't sound like much but I haven't wrote anything since last April.

As for the healthy lifestyle change, Rose and I have been trying it. I will be honest and say she more than I. ;) Good luck to both you and your better half.

Chris,

I will include you in the mail out for sure, mate.  I'm not sure what you'll think of the slight change in direction but we'll wait and see.

Thanks for the support too, mate.  Really appreciate it.
