Multiplayer HELL

Creating/Joining Games

I seem to be among many others who are experiencing the same problem.  I bought your Sins of a Solar Empire game yesterday with plans to not only enjoy the singleplayer game but to engage in epic battles with my son who lives in another state and also recently purchased the game.  When either he or I attempt to create a game, we get the message that our firewall or router is blocking others from joining our game.  I enabled my firewall to allow the game thorough, and the same problem exists. I diable the firewall entirely, same results.  I bypass my router and STILL get the same annoying message.  I WAS able to join someone elses game but not my son's, and after an hour and a half I surrendered to single player mode.  ALL of my entire library of on line multiplayer games work as they should.  I have windows Vista and my son has Windows XP.  Others in the game lobby also could not join a game I created.

PLEASE tell me that Ironclad or Stardock or SOMEBODY plans to fix this highly annoying issue in an upcoming patch (hopefully SOON).  I feel that I have wasted my money on a broken game.

Possible work around is for you two to use a VPN, I have used Hamachi in the past to run LAN games over the "internet" and bypass problems such as this one.

Link to Hamachi.

I got this same problem a while back with Warcraft 3... Never did figure out how to fix it and all the idiots at Blizzards Tech Support just scratched their head and basically said "Ma tech manual don't tell me nuttin' bout fixin' yer computa". I figured in the long run that it's all caused by my wireless router and I've screwed it up too many times already to bother attempting to fix it in fear that I'll screw it up even more than I have (and my dad wouldn't like that either :P)

If you're willing to accept that the game is not "broken" just because it requires you to forward some ports etc. from your router, and you are willing to read/implement a guide I've written exactly for said purpose please download the following linked guide.

Should you have issues implementing my instructions after you've read them, I am available to help with step-by-step instruction via my TS Server.

Its worth mentioning that the message isn't always accurate -- its way oversensitive (they're working on that) and will sometimes show up wrongly. You might want to test hosting.

It tends to still givey ou the message even if you can host.

I can host but i still get the message.
But yeah.. open up 6000-6012 that's all you need.

Yea, even I get the message but it still works. As long as you are port forwarding 6112 to your PC you should be fine.

Like has been mentioned, opened 6112 TCP, though I opened 6000-6112 both TCP and UDP, not sure why. =P

Check out portforward.com, or Monk's guide.

Make sure your firewall has port 6112 opened too, and is not blocking sins.

1.03 deals with this dialog which has become too inaccurate to be useful...
