It amazes me....

You know, I am  amazed at the lengths people will go to to make each other's lives miserable.

Is that all they do?  Spend their every waking hour thinking of new ways to be mean to someone else?  Plan to the letter what they will do and what they will say to hurt someone else?

How do people like that live with themsleves?  And, more to the point, why do they do it?  Are there feelings of inadequacy that they feel they have to overcome by being vindictive?  Or have they not quite grown out of the teenage bullying phase of their lives?  Perhaps they do it because it makes them feel powerful?

I see it a lot...in real life, on the internet, on TV, in the newspapers....people whose sole purpose in life is to hurt everyone around them.

I simply don't understand it.

First of all, hullo and welcome to my blog!

Secondly, you're right.  We're not all going to get along with everyone we meet.  There are going to be people that we can't stand to be around or deal with...but why don't the 'haters' just do what the rest of us do and get over it?  Why can't they just move on?

If they don't want to move on, maybe we should?

Tell me about it! I'm around 'em all the time! I've worked in a jail for 10 1/2 years now. One thing I have observed is if you make your stand IMMEDIATLEY upon first contact with the offensive, belligerent asshole and show them you WILL NOT tolerate one ounce of their bullshit, you will usually get along fine. I've noticed, curiously enough, that when a bully is put in their place, a lot of them cry like a baby! Imagine that...

It's kind of hard to move on when you're being followed around...I can move on all I want to, but if the person who's being mean keeps following me it doesn't do much good....

Shovel: I've seen it too.  Underneath the hard-man exterior, most of them are p&$#y's.  You give them a taste of the own medicine, and they start playing the victim and turn on the waterworks.

Which jail do you work at?

one in Texas

Well, I had sort of figured that out......!  I was just wondering which particular facility.  It's ok if you don't want to tell.

I have been thinking the same thing today Dharma, in fact I was just going to write something about it. Hope you don't mind being my inspiriation!

Some people just need to stand on top of others. And they don't care how they get there, who they have to step over, or who gets ground under their heels. It doesn't matter to them. As long as they get where and what they want.

I don't get it.

Not at all, Dev.  Blog away!

I don't get it either....

I'm with you on this one. I mean, I have bad days and can be a jerk at times, but I don't make a living of treating others like crap. It's a mystery, to me that people can be that way. I have to confess, though, that I have a guilty pleasure of thwarting people like this whenever I get the oppurtunity.

Well, I do too...but it's not a daily occurrence and it's certainly not unprovoked. You can only tread on me so many times before I turn...like my ex-neighbor, for example.  I put up with a lot of crap from her before I finally made an official complaint, and when she got busted and got into trouble I was pretty happy.

It's people like her that I'm talking about - people who, for no apparent reason, attack (verbally, physically or otherwise) others and gain pleasure from someone elses pain.

Being that I am still in high school, I see it all too often. Let me paint a picture for you: our school has been to the state championships for football the past 3 of the past 6 years. We are a perennial powerhouse on the gridiron. Therefore, if you don't play football, there is a lot of stuff you dont get. The ladies, preferential treatment, etc. etc. etc.

So anyway, the football players have it in their heads that they are better than anyone else, and it shows. Our class is the worst, there are so many complete and utter dickheads. They aren't better than anyone, in fact, most of them are the ones that will grow up, never leave the county, and poop out babies until they get a boy to carry on the AC football tradition.

The worst part is, they don't think up the things they say before hand; it comes naturally to them. As for being able to live with themselves, they're too dumb to realize what they're doing.

Yes, I have observed the same thing myself.  Those people are the ones who will say that HS was the best time of their lives because that's the only time they were someone....they never go anywhere or do anything with their lives, they just get married, get fat, and end up stagnating in the same small town they were born in.

....I think that people who bully online are more than likely losers who wouldn't say boo to a goose if they were confronted in person.  The anonimity the internet offers makes them bold...all the repressed anger they have at not being worth a damn in real life comes out on screen.

People who bully in real time are a differnt matter.  I think that a lot of them do it for a sense of power.  They have to stand on someone esle, because if they stood on their own they'd be nothing....I hope that makes sense!

Dharma it totally amazes me as well. How people can claim to be intelligent and compassioante yet spew hateful venom whether it be in real life or online.

So I put my faith in Karma. I sit back like the Buddha smiling, watching and waiting.

I think that the claims about intellect are very telling about someone's self-image and worth. In my experience, people who are smart don't go around bragging to everyone that they're smart.  It's those that aren't that feel the need to brag about it.

Same with compassion.  People who are truly compassionate don't brag about it constantly.

I don't consider it bragging, just stating a fact.

Yes, but you don't constantly tell everyone "I'm smart.  I'm smarter than you".  People who do that seem to be trying to not only convince us, but themselves too.....

My girlfriend and I were just talking about that the other day. She calls from the UK and we chat for three hours! Anyhows, she was telling me that her fiance got fired from his job and it's a long story but we both said thank God because of the type of people he worked with. He works for a construction company and he was a hard worker and they were very abusive to him in every which way possible. Because he needed the job and he wasn't a quitter he hanged in there. To make a long explanation even shorter, the gist of it was, he was fired without pay or any kind of severance. They're the rough neck kinds that if you go to the law and complain or try to fight them legally you get your leg broken (it happened to someone else). I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I mean, do we live in the year 2004 or what?! These kind of people are out there who make your life miserable and they get away with it because they have money and can do whatever they want. And she's a fighter in that she would have seen it through to the end but it's just not worth the aggravation. So I said to her, as did everyone else knowing the kind of stress they have been under, good riddance to them and one day they'll mess with the wrong people who will give them their come uppance - or exactly what they deserve! Sometimes it's hard to turn the other cheek, but there are times when that's the best thing to do. There's a God out there and there is justice in this world. You know what's even more whacked? When the person who makes your life miserable and want to see you fail is your own family. Now, that's totally messed up and another long story!
