Leave Yourself Within Arms Reach

Ruined weekends find quick remedy in your phone call,
monotony replaced by nervousness,
cowardice replaced by strong squalls on the Mississippi,
I'm grateful for the fact that I put no thought into what I'm wore,
and haven't thought of how I haven't thought of it until now.

Sure my life and hair are both a mess,
and maybe you'll never run your hands through either,
but you've taken a chance to get within an arms reach,
giving me hope that I just might be hopeful.

We've got each other in common sense and all unfamiliar,
which offers attentive permission for all of our own qualities that we've let go unappreciated for far too long,
if you add closet shyness to loneliness does is equal some kind of circular reasoning?
or do we just need someone lead us out of this trench we've paced so deeply to validate these misplaced feelings.

I've been so busy not thinking about you that I have had little time for anything else,
but on occasion I do reinvent these devices,
comprised of nothing more than all the spare parts you've left behind that had been on permanent lend,
I didn't want them back because I had forgotten what they're for,
how to use them,
and you also, could no longer recall their function.

I still don't even know how to hold these that I've created,
but I've recently remembered how to flip a switch,
and now the rusty gears are turning and whirring,
followed by a burning sensation causing rapidly rising heat reminding me to move soon before I ignite.

Strike my match,
and compose whistling symphonies to fill all these previously impassable gaps,
disregard maps, advice, or instinct,
ask questions, speak openly, speak first and only secondly should you think,
leave your eyes open to meet mine,
introduce yourself to first impressions and find losses of time,
refreshing, like Mississippi squalls in October,
leave yourself within arms reach and help me remember why, when we were all young, we were in such a rush to be older.

I don't let anyone right into my life, not right away anyway. The trust has to be there. So, I keep myself an arms length away from people when I first meet them. Then when the trust is there and I let them in, then I keep them within arms reach. Good friends are hard to come by.

Amen, that they are. I'm working on expanding my friend base, and I suppose I've been working on it for the last 5 years...it's been a slow and not so steady process, but so very necessary for my sanity.

Let me ask you something.

Do you ever read something so beautiful it makes you sick? It's like when you see a hot guy, (or girl), and not even being with them could cancel what you felt....a sort of rage...a good rage.

Every piece I've ever read of yours makes me feel....I dunno. It's not like it would make it better if I'd written it myself, but there's something hidden in the words that takes me to an altogether new emotion that is indescribable.

As of now, you probably think I'm psychotic or obsessive.....that's ok.....

I just like to let you know that there's someone out here that appreciates your writing more than words can say.

i wrote this on monday:

"you took me apartthings where i never had things before ... bits that i can’t find at all.  attempted repair serves only to highlight the reality ... i will never be whole again"

I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out since I did write in on the fly. Recently, everytime I've opened my notebook I've been really disappointed with what's available for material. Interesting how well it can pay off to go with my random fits of inspiration. Mig, I'm always flattered by your support in light of how intrigued I continue to be by your own work.

Thanks to all, Suspeckted

Excellent poem mate, another instant classic. I've started writing more and more on the fly lately, though I don't think I'm liking the way most of the newer poems are turning out. Still waiting for my PC to arrive (it's been making its way to Warsaw from Sydney for the past...10 weeks now), most of my unfinished work is on it, it shits me that I have the willingness and the time to go back and finish a few poems but can't for reasons as trivial as this :-/
