Do multiple Factories lead to faster ship production times?

Not sure if this is a dumb question but it doesn't seem to be answered in the manual.  If I build 2 frigate factories around the same planet, does that mean they will produce ships twice as fast?  From the handful of games I have played it looks like they share the same queue and as such there isn't a way to tell one factory to produce LRMs while the other produces cruisers so I'm not sure if there is an actual benefit to having more than one factory.

From my experience, no. I had 3 on one planet and the ships took exactly the same amount of time.

Although admittedly I haven't actually tried clicking on each individual factory and producing a different unit with each one, so maybe that would have worked, certainly clicking on the planet and building from there didn't make things any faster.

Yes they will produce 2 ships at a time. No difference of course if you build a single ship.

If u have 3 factories, and u queue 9 ships , the progress bar is the same speed but 3 ships pop up the same time (queue counter goes down by 3 each time a progress bar is ended), hence 3 times faster than building 9 ships outta 1 factory.

Each shipyard will produce a ship, thus 4 shipyards will produce more then one would. If you do not need to build a fleet fast, then it's a waste to have more then one. But if you need reinforcements NOW, then this is a very good idea.

From what i can tell, having more then one shipyard will not make the individual shipyards produce faster.

Yes, multiple factories produce that many more ships for the same amount of time, but you have to remember, if you don't have the econ to actually buy the ships out of three or so factories, then multiple factories are just dead weight. And you will be dead also if someone catches you.

If you see someone overstretching themselves, best strategy is to hit them hard early while their econ sucks. They won't have as many ships as you because they wasted their resources in expansion and building multiple factories. But if you let them develop, then you will be screwed. You have to know when to commit to building up a fleet vs. expansion and turtling, and the only way you can know that is by scouting.

Production times are halved for the results you are getting. I was quite suprised the first time I did that, expecting one ship to come out of each factory, and seeing 2 pop out of one instead.

But for my intent and purpose, the process functioned just as how I expected.
