Cost of Capital Ship Research Contributes to lack of Use of Capital Ships

I have an idea why capital ships aren't used often:
Cost of research!
Capital ships cost huge amounts of money of field requiring high initial investment into research and fleet cap. Consequently they are less useful than frigates of cost being that frigate research costs aren't nearly as high as frigate research costs, coupled with their lack of cost/firepower ratio.

...You don't use capital ships?

You DO know that capital ships aren't supposed to make up the entire fleet, right? Their major purpose, I believe, is to amplify fleets they're in.

Capital ships can turn the momentum of the war into your favor. For sure!

I hope you realise that how many capital ships you decide to use and how you mix and mach them in your fleet will determine if you win or loose against unfavorable odds.

Just today I raided a pirate base after 11hrs of gametime. It was loaded with 400+ pirates. I only having ~250 ships with 5 carefully selected capital ships, cruisers, and support ships was able to clean the entire pirate base with no casulties at all.

I bet trying to do that with one capital ship would have been suicide.

I thought with your IWIN strategy you didn't use Cap Ships?

If you consider the power of a capital ship it is a reasonable price. It takes a good 5 frigates to make up the base damage of the Cap ship, about 400 credits 400*5 = 2000. A cap ship can also take a lot more damage and it has abilites that greatly improve your units and such. For example one of the Vasari Caps can do a good 800 damage on a single unit. They are considered the heroes of the army, you don't have a huge amount of heroes in a single army.

You'll need to post the link where I said I never use caps. Seems like you're making things up.

Oh.....I know what you're referring to. You're talking about the post where I describe the INITIAL phase strategy. That's just a strategy for the first 10 to 20 minutes of the game.

I try to make 8 to 10 capital ships within the first hour of the game.

Capital ships do something that no other ships do - they level up. At higher levels, with their ultimate ability unlocked, they are strong support ships designed to aid the fleet with all-round firepower and combat abilities(battleships), strike craft squadrons and support abilities(carriers), colonization bonuses with jumbled abilities(colonizer caps), awesome direct-support abilities(support caps) or heavy siege power and planet-killer abilities(dreadnoughts).

And anyway, they're capped at 16 without mods, which only makes for 800 supply points. The remaining 1200-1520 supply points are filled with firepower or specialized support ships.
