WC2K5 Tip #1: Taking advantage of referrals

One of the new features of WinCustomize is the ability to see what other sites out on the Internet are linking to your site and skins.  This can be very valuable in several ways.  We have already been using this feature on JoeUser.com and it has been a great tool to find out who links to you and what keywords search engines use to find your site. It has been a big hit over on JoeUser and I'm sure it will be here too.

Because we track the URL's that link to your site you will be able to see the referring URL's that come from search engines like google.  It's real interesting to see what keywords people search on to find your site.  But the real advantage for WinCustomize users is to increase the popularity of your site which will also help increase your downloads.  The more sites  you get to link to your personal page or skins will driver more users to your site.  This in turn will not only help increase your Site Hit Ranking but will also get more people downloading your skins and will increase your download and popularity ranking.

So people who keep a watchfull eye on referrals and post links to their personal page on WinCustomize at other sites will have a definite advantage over those who do not.

How do you see the referral links...I'm familiar with the way it works over at JoeUser. I'm current showing that I have 2 site referrals and when I click the more button, I get a top ten list. I've figured out the skin referrals. Can you enlighten us. Thanks

If you go over to your Stats, there's the Site Referrals stat aboot halfway down. Click "More" there, and that brings ya to the list.

Hopefully this little feature won't lead to people spamming their links, either.

DoctorNick...Hiya The "More" only gives you how many referrals you got it doesn't give you the details, like you get on the skin referrals or the article referrals over at JoeUser, so when I know I have 3 referrals now, but still don't know where they came from

We are going to be changing that more link to go to a page that views referrals to your site instead of showing the ranking of sites receiving the most referrals.  Might have that up today.

That's cool T-Man, still would be nice to see the current referral list of sites somewhere, it's an easy way, right now, to see what who's got sites out there
