We're having a boy!

-or- passing on the name

It's true! My wife and I can hardly believe it, but it is true. I saw it with my own (somewhat trained) eyes! A twig and berries to be sure.

We had ourselves convinced we were having another little girl. The last thing I wanted to feel was disappointment, so I thoroughly convinced myself that another little girl would be the best thing in the world. But deep down I wanted a boy. A little guy around the house, a little more testosterone in the mix. And it looks like it is going to happen.

My parents are ecstatic. This will be the first grandson on either side. I am sure my in-laws will be overjoyed as well. Just haven't had a chance to call and tell them yet.

And I am really excited to pass along the family name. And no, I don't mean Jones. I mean John. John is my middle name, and I was the first son of the generation. My father's middle name is John, and he is the first son of the generation. His father's middle name is John, and, well, I am sure you see the pattern here. We skip one generation back there, but this little fellow will make the 7th John in 8 generations. So his middle name will be John as well.

Yay!!!  I caught my breath when I saw this title, because I was hoping it was your moniker behind it...

I'm getting out the knitting needles and blue yarn and I'll start working tomorrow!

Congrats, Dev...this really is awesome news!!!

Thanks so much Dharma! That is very kind of you.

chiprj - Thanks. We are pretty excited. Okay, so we are really excited!

Trina p - Yeah, the girls know. Jessica is elated. She is such a good big sister, and is very happy at the prospect of a brother. Aubrey isn't really old enough to know yet (21 months) but she can tell there is something to be excited about.

Thanks NickyG!

Yay for you! I want to be sarcastically funny about all the, ahem, joys that boys bring, but I don't think I know you well enough yet....sometimes my sarcasm doesn't go over well.

Congrats on the baby, and good luck to your wife as she's dealing with being pregnant.

Tex and Ravenblack - Thanks so much for your kind words. I really do appreciate them.

Angloesque - I would love to hear what you have to say. I remember pretty well just how, um, interesting I was as a boy growing up. But my wife, well, I am going to buy her "The Big Book of Boy Stuff" to help prepare her a bit.

Boys are so much fun!  The first new thing to be prepared for is changing the diaper.  Make sure to quickly put one on top while removing the other unless you like pee in the eye

Congrats!  Another good book is "Bringing up Boys".

Best wishes.

Too many people to thank individually, but I really do mean it when I say thanks to everyone who passed their well-wishes along. It means a lot.

I have been freaking my wife out, explaining to her some of the crazy things to expect from boys. But I also reminded her that boys have rules. We don't need to talk about them, we just have them. And if you can figure out the rules boys make a lot more sense than girls. At least from my experience it seems to be that way.

Boys aren't that hard. I had an easier time with my boys than I did with their sister.

Take Jill's advice about the diaper, though. I have been peed on that way....there must be something about cool air on a warm bottom that just makes them let go!

Are you going to get him circumcised?  That's a pretty...ummm...disturbing thing to look at while it's healing, just so you know.

It's an even more disturbing thing to do the circumcision! Trust me. Before I had to help do them I would probably have just said yes without thinking it through. Now, I'm not sure.

My wife is really apprehensive about a boy, but I keep telling her I really do believe he will be easier than his siters. At least for me. And I appreciate the advice about the diaper. Having changed plenty of boys diapers in my lifetime I think I will be ready, but not sure Lissa is. But hey, at least with boys you can see when they are peeing all over the place. I can't count the number of times I changed one of our daughters dirty diapers, put it in the diaper genie, grabbed a new diaper, and then lifted their little bums to put the clean diaper there only to find a puddle. I didn't even know they had gone.

Ah, the many joys of parenthood!

When Davey was born, the took him across the hallway from my room to do the circumcision, and failed to shut the door properly....I cried, and cried because it could hear him wailing.

Jake's wasn't so bad because we had a sympathetic pediatrician who numbed him up first.

I cannot imagine doing it....and I'm glad that you're thinking twice about it.
