Is the prefs.ini file good?

I checked it because of previous problems with it.

This one has several lines ">>>>>> 1.17
=======
PlayerEmpire =Terran Sphere
PlayerName =CaerAine
>>>>>>> 1.18
---------------
which looks like several players using the same file, but I didn't think it would work that way.

It also has duplicates of a lot of other lines, such as the distribution of the bonus points.

I haven't tried using it yet, so I will.

Cheers,
Jack

Well, now I can't get galciv started. I get the Stardock logo screen, the Galactic
Civilization logo screen, then a blank screen and the setup music. Here is what the
debug file says:

This is after a clean install and changing the prefs.ini as above, then after copying the prefs.ini from alpha 4
into the alpha 5 directory. (I renamed the old Galciv directory to galciva4 before installing alpha5. The Alpha
5 directory is Galciv - unchanged from the install.)

Any ideas of what the problem is?

Thanks,
Jack

Ick...that happened to Kris, too....We deleted his directory, hit uninstall, and then installed it again and it worked fine. The file it's choking on was in the right place and everything, and he had done a clean install, too...

It sure is strange to see this kind of problem again. Does the DGM check the CRC of
the downloaded files before installing them?

Jack

Umm...I really don't know what the problem was. I was comparing the file sizes of the the file that was supposedly missing with the same file from a good build and they were exactly the same size, date, etc, since it hadn't been changed.

The DGM is not currently comparing checksums.

Like Cari said, we zapped everything a second time and it was happy. May want to clean out your temp dirs too.

I have uninstalled, deleted the galciv directory, and re-installed and it seems to be working. I am using the \
ugly prefs.ini. What do you think? Should I try to clean up the INI?

Jack
