I have finally joined the broadband world... Again

Thank you Verizon Wireless!!!

Well, the people that run the housing area around here have finally listened to all the complaints and requests. The lines in and out of our housing area are crap and the base has a contract for exclusive service for cable with a crappy company (which is why we also have a satellite dish), so it looked like broadband internet service was never going to happen. But, Verizon Wireless got permission to connect a wireless network in the area. They came through today and installed an antenna on top of every unit and a box in every living room and now, two hours later, I have an upgraded net connection. IT ROCKS!!!! No more 26.4 kbs for me!!! WOO-HOO!

Well, I'm outta here! I gotta go do some serious surfing!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

I thought it was particularly ironic that you couldn't get broadband or dsl in Monterey, home to 100s of dot.comers, and so stinking close to San Jose and Silicon Valley.

Yeah, big thanks to Gen Jim Moore are in order (or at least I'm told). Apparently, the rumors are he lined his pockets with phat cash by ensuring Ft Ord would get the contracts for phone and cable that we got...

Well, I hit soribada for a bit last night. Also, ilikepop.com. Also, got to visit a friends homepage that I wasn't able to view very well with dial up. Nak's Mini Home-P(age) at http://cyworld.nate.com/nak22.

I am in Monterey, but not everybody else. I do have some very good, close friends that are in the desert, though. Mostly (but not always - see Talisein's blog) the Korean linguists are tied to Korea.

That's my opinion! I have no desire to be there... Outside of DLI, there's no place CONUS that I want to be!
