Minor Race Suggestion

I was thinking of something to consider for future patches, maybe as something you could select at the start of the game, or maybe just an overall change. I'd like to see the minor races be immune to the effects of influence. This way if I have a minor race in some corner, I can always have a late game trading partner. I hate the late game where my culture starts ballooning and swallows of all my trading partners. Plus it seems odd that "Independant League" would all of a sudden change their titular stripes.

I'd really like to have a minor race that could be my "Little Buddy" without having to worry about squashing it with my culture. A race I would want to defend from the fleets of my enemies. Someone who I can sell tech to and trade with even as I am dominating the majors. Thoughts?

Just how high is your influence when they start defecting?

What I do to avoid losing my major trading partners/minor races is collect a large amount of constructors in the sector, build a starbase or two loaded with Influence modules, and then give it to the minor race. This seems to stop them from defecting. I also tend to sell/give them influence-related techs and trade goods.

Hope this helps...

I should mention, although it is fairly obvious, that you need to build the starbase, make all the improvements, and give it to the other race all in the SAME TURN. Otherwise, they might defect before you finish building.

FWIW, an added bonus to this is it GREATLY enhances your relationship with the other race.

' Plus it seems odd that "Independant League" would all of a sudden change their titular stripes.'

The I-League is an associate race, that is to say a major race that doesn't count for victory conditions. They, the Draginol, Dark Arnor, and the Fundamentalists can all be influenced just like any other major race (with the exception of destabilization/espionage). True minor races do have an high starting influence resist.

I for one wished that the I-league, fundamentalists and the Draginol would be cut out of the game. They are extremely irritating.

Here I was dominating a medium galaxy on normal difficulty. Suddenly the Fundamentalists pop-up and immediately acquire all my tech (none of us can trade tech between each other so we were equal) and 5 class 34-42 planets in their system that wasnt there before (or was but i didnt notice it). Then they constantly acquired ALL the galaxy wonders and trade goods and pumped out overlords like there was no tomorrow. Their military might was well over 1600 and their economy fluctuated between 6000-8000BC cash. Conquering that system used up my entire fleet of combat transports and overlords, and trust me, i had plenty of those. All my systems were left defenseless and population went completely down the drain, some systems had less then 1Billion peops on them.

Then the I-league came along with two crappy systems and low military might and cash. My overall morale was 66%!! One-by-one my systems started defecting to the I-league, despite the fact that everybody was happy and I had like 70% cultural influence over the galaxy. So I irradicated the I-league, they were gone, finished, off the minor race charts. Some turns later, a system of mine defected to the I-league!! What a crap...

And last but not least, the draginol came along. I was pure good, so they didnt fancy me that much. They to had a god-like economy and military might, including 4 class37 planets. I blinked my eyes two times and they already conquered 3 systems off mine. No matter how hard I kept pumping out overlords, they pumped twice as hard. I exponentionally saw my empire giving itself to the dark side.

Oh yeah, and when I needed 18 months for Near Omnicience to be researched, they had it in two months.... >:(

I know you probably were not expecting this rough a ride on normal difficulty but I would have loved having this kinda challenge right at the end game.

Well, seems like you are nearing beyond human anyways, so you should be able to wing a tech victory by going all research.

Actually, building a starbase in the minor's sector with culture improvements and then selling/giving it to them is a viable workaround. A little of a pain, but if I want to protect them from my galactic Brittany Spears and Coca-Cola it appears that I can. Plus they pay big for the base. Also, I would guess that beefing up the base's defense/offense capabilities goes a long way towards protecting them militarily. Thanks for that tip David!
