MOO 3 slips to < 2 stars at amazon

I'm sure i'm not the only MOO fan who sees MOO 3's failure as a very sad thing. I was over at amazon and saw that the average rating had slipped to under 2 stars. That's the first PC game I've ever seen do that there. I hope they can patch it to being a decent game. The data patch helps the ai some but doesn't resolve the fundamental problems with it. sigh.

No Phaedyme (said in a slightly condescending voice), but this post is off topic it is nothing to do with Galciv.

Oh, was that what your point was? Sorry. :/

Actually, for a lot of people here, it has much to do with GalCiv.

I too am a MOO refugee, searching for a better TB-Space game. There's no doubt that many people who now play GalCiv defected after the horrible release that has cursed the once-great Master of Orion series.

GalCiv is constantly upgraded, and ripping on the poor aspects of MOO3 may actually be constructive criticism. Then Frogboy or whoever works on GalCiv can get ideas of what NOT to do, and maybe read a few ideas of what SHOULD have been done in MOO3 & can STILL add it to GalCiv...

Just a thought... :notsure:

No, 'cause the two games are only tangentally the same (they're both 4x, set in space). Beyond that, and traits common to pretty much all 4x games, they go in different directions.

I like MOO3 and I like GalCiv. I think I like Gal Civ more, but Moo3 didn't disappoint me as much as it seemed to disappoint everyone else, yes it's not MOO2's successor, and YES it's a bit messed up with needing patches.... But I still enjoy it when I play it.

I also enjoy GalCiv a lot when I play it though... I wish there was a mac version of it, but hey, that's where MOO3 has it beat for me ;p

But still, I don't like seeing all the hubub between the 2 games, they are different games as someone previously said... MOO 3 is way overly complex, but I like that. GalCiv is simpler, and therefore in a sense it's a bit more fun to play than MOO3, but MOO3 is fun in it's own way, with the Data patch at least.

I too am a MOO defector, and after reading not too encouraging reviews for Gal Civ, I almost passed it up. However, with MOO3 being so bad, I had to try GalCiv. And boy am I glad I did, it fills the void MOO3 left in my heart. As much as they can talk about and patch MOO3, I just believe that game will never be "Fun". GalCiv is fun, period. IT is challenging as well. Maybe the graphics are a bit dated, but if you want graphics there is ORB, and Hegemonia. And graphic titles seem to lack depth, depth is what MOO2 and GalCiv is all about.

I have played both MOO3 and GalCiv. At the moment, GalCiv is definitely the better game. That's not to say that I think MOO3 is *bad*, I just don't think it's notably *good*. Fortunately, this may well change once the code patch gets released. It sounds like many of the obnoxious and annoying problems are going to be fixed.

I lost all hope in MOO... But gladly there is a game called GalCiv!!! :) :D LOL LOL :CONGRAT:

Amazon star ratings are fairly meaningless, and the reviews barely any better. Most people who rate stuff at Amazon know only two ratings: 1 star (worst thing ever) or 5 stars (best thing ever). Not only that, but you'll frequently see, especially with video games, users giving 5 stars or 1 star and a rave / flame to a game that won't be out for months. "I haven't played this, but it's going to ROCK / SUCK!" Not to mention the hordes of people who lay in wait to give tons of negative "helpful" points to anyone who disagrees with their viewpoint.

So I wouldn't put too much weight on an Amazon star rating.

couldn't get into Moo3. been a long time Moo2 fan. not bashing anything, just genuenly upset. IMHO and all that.

Amazon.com? well, Moo2 is still at 5 stars out there and it's been what? 6 years? says at least something, I'm sure. I do believe lots of fans were genuenly dissapointed. not just trolling random review sites.

I agree with whomever said it above, these talks are okay as long as we don't put each other down. as it helps us to understand what makes a better TBS space game for certain people. and avoid mistakes.

anyway, I still have the Moo3 cd, holding out for the code patch. will it really change it significantly to make it more fun for me? maybe. if people have fun with Moo3 now, more power to them, though. :CONGRAT:

I disagree that GalCiv is alot like Moo2. I personally think GalCiv resembles Civilization itself more than it does any game from the Moo series (not that this is a bad thing mind you considering Civ is a good game)

As to the Moo3 debacle. I read what the designers are fixing and it seems as though they're fixing a large share of the bugs that I truly had issue with, so they are definitely making progress with it. I personally would like to see both games succeed as I like the idea of designing ships, terraforming planets, building task forces, etc.

GalCiv has plenty of its own positives....so I suspect that I end up enjoying both for differing reasons.

I agree with SeanB for the most part. My issues with MOO3 were the bugs and poor documentation. I still think it *could* be a very good game, but it will take some time for everything to get sorted out. My theory is still that they rushed the game towards the end because they were afraid of the backlash from another delay in the release date...though honestly I would have preferred if they had waited another 2-3 months and polished everything up more.

I too was a Moo fan until Moo3 came out.
I like GalCiv, it's a lot different from Moo but
I can play the game and love all the updates.
But I stil play Moo.. but only Moo2.

Actually Moo3 was originally going to have sector-based map, unlike all predecessors. But galciv is a lot more like birth of federation than any moo game!!!

Even with bugs fixed, it remains to be seen whether Moo3 will turn out to be a good game. Since the AI is nonexistent, it is too early to judge gameplay. My hunch is that no amount of bug fixing will sort it out, but the cds are still sitting here (i've uninstalled the game after two weeks of best intentions) and I'm secretly hoping behind my pessimism.

MOO3 is part of the Master of Orion legacy in NAME ONLY.

Now let us never speak of it again. :(

Your 2 stars may be telling, but this is even more so: sales of PC games. In about a month and a half, Moo3 has slipped to 61. LMAO MOO2 is at 49. Even the original Starcraft is outselling it!!!

A total illustration of what not to do when releasing a video game is MOO3. It's Garbage. Great concept. Lets eliminate this tedius Micromanagement but introduce an even more tedius UI in its place!!!! I just bought Galciv, am playing on what amounts to "Tard" level just to get a feel for the game and UI. I am winning soundly but not as easily, nor as quickly as I expected. Unlike Moo3, the thing might beat me on a hard level. And everything is within 2 clicks of a mouse. No more 4 meaningless spreadsheets to go through to get the info I want. Great game is Galciv...
