My Own Company!

Blog No. 3!

Hey...

Last night, I was discussing with my girlfriend, how sometimes I just prefer my own company. I think she got a bit offended (... I can't think why?) and said it's not really "normal" for people to want to spend time alone.

Now... I don't mean that I want to move to the woods, Unabomber style, and shut myself off from the rest of the world, forever, but I really enjoy just spending time by myself! Time to just think and relax, without having to chat and play with others!

I have a good group of friends, but we don't live in each others pockets. We get together now and then, not every other night, and that's just the way I like it! I like to come home, turn on the TV, cook dinner and go to bed. My girlfriend likes after work drinks, dinners with friends, Yoga on mondays and going to coffee. I do to... but maybe just once a week, not EVERY night. I even like time away from her... a rare, but valued occasion.

Perhaps I am wierd... but I float the idea, because I think i'm not alone here (gettit???) =).

I'll leave you with this thought, (... i've probably stolen it from somewhere, just can't remember where i've heard it!) "How can you be happy with others, if your not happy with yourself!".

I prefer my own company at times as well, but after a while, you'll change your mind.

Not always so Trent,
I don't fit the definition of anti-social but I can relate to Cosmos here. After the rushing around dealing with all the crap that day to day living brings
it can be good to be alone.

If Cosmos is comfortable by himself with who he is, super. Good blog cosmos!

Again, I'm running late here, but, I'll second what SSG Geezer says. There's nothing wrong with 'me' time. It's cool and fun to hang out with friends, but it's also great to just hang out alone.

Its perfectly normal to want to spend time by yourself sometimes. Of course, there are a small minority of people who don't understand why someone, if given the option of spending time with someone and spending it by yourself, would choose the latter.

The way I look at it is this: its very healthy to take time to just be by yourself, so you are comfortable with yourself. I'm also sure that there are things that your GF does by herself that she doesn't consider taking time to herself, and I think that if the two of you looked, you'd probably find the same behavior in her.
