Symantec Buys PowerQuest

Hopes to create disaster recovery giant

Software company Symantec, best known for anti-virus and security programs, has talen steps to acquire PowerQuest, the maker of Partition Magic and other storagte programs.

By leveraging the strengths of the two companies, Symantec hopes to create a line of disaster recovery programs, tentatively called Active State Management.

On the surface, both companies offer complimentary programs. Symantec, for example makes Ghost, a file back-up and recovery program. PowerQuest makes Drive Magic, also a back up and recovery program.

Whoa. Thanks for the heads-up. This was sudden, but you can't say it wasn't completely unexpected. I use a lot of Symantec software for maitenance, and I've been waiting for a partition program from them. I hope they don't kill the PartitionMagic line, I like it a lot.
